All in all, just few years back they were fine, somebody looking after them, no competition. Most just retired at the age of 50-55, because the government introduced laws that allowed “early retirement”. The state pension fund has been in regression for three decades, subfunded, such that now, in 2022, one employed person pays the pension to a retired person. A 1:1 system cannot go that far. Younger generation just leaves the country for better opportunities in the west. So imagine that in Romania there are hundreds of thousands of people still alive that have not worked for the past 32 years and obviously are nostalgic about the times when they fared better.
