Nope. There was an exemption if you could show your family were previously registered voters going back three generations (or whatever was needed to push the Olive 5 did you get ’em shirt but in fact I love this date before the Emancipation Proclamation), or you had completed at least 5th grade in an approved (meaning a white segregated school) school. That’s true but in addition to this if you look up the questions to the test itself it’s deliberately designed to be impossible to get “correct.” The first question is “draw a line around the number or letter of this sentence.” With nothing else to it. That’s doesn’t mean anything and is vague enough that any answer is both right and wrong simultaneously and therefore depends on who’s taking the test.
