Now, in the spring when clocks roll forward, that was different. No arrangements made, night shift cheered as 2:59am suddenly became 4:00am and we were that much closer to be done. I used to work steady overnights. We got 1 hour overtime pay when working the extra hour and still 8 hours during the 7 hour shift. When I worked in bars, we had the option to keep the bar open an extra hour and often did, so extra $$$ for everyone. For me it’s always been that we work 9 hrs from when we clock in, so sometimes that’s us clocking in at 10 and leaving at 6 and sometimes that’s leaving at 8. I could easily bring in another 20-40 that last hour, especially if other bars closed at the normal time. I worked 24 hr shifts once and my shift fell on the fall back. Yes it was a 25 hour day. No my check was not a 25 hr pay. I remember working at a casino, the manager assured us we would be paid for hours worked not clock hours…I was an hour short next paycheck :/

I don’t work overnight, but I’m pretty certain they just work an extra hour. Their shift still doesn’t end until a certain time. It isn’t “work 8 hours and then go home”. Luckily it usually works out that if you work one you work both so that’s nice When I worked at a restaurant with a night shift you loose the hour but gain it back when the time goes forward We used to still count the time as though the clock didn’t roll back. We still were there for only 10 hours. The clock time didn’t matter. By the time it rolled back, we had one hour left in our shift until it was time to go home. I used to do 12 hour night shifts and if this happened you still only got the 12 hours pay. On the other hand it does go the other way as well that when the clocks go forward you dont lose an hours pay.
