Unless there is some context here you’re leaving out, I kinda find it rude that you would consider it weird for someone to reach out and be friendly. If you’re a huge part of this guys fiancees life, of course it would be normal for him to reach out like he’d want to know you. Jesus, are we that closed off from each other nowadays? I also think it’s basic courtesy for the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this GF to say “hey, can I give BF your number, he said it would be great to be in touch with you.” What makes it weird is the way he’s going about it. Nothing is clearly off, but he isn’t communicating some things that could make the situation more clear. I think this is also a generational thing. If the fiance is around the same age as your friend, there’s probably a very casual vibe to the texting.
Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt details
Not weird at all. I also think it’s a generational difference. I’m closer to OPs age, when I was growing up plutonic friendships between straight men and women were rare, and there was always an undertone of sexual tension with them. With the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this younger generation I think they have more platonic friendships between opposite genders. It sounds like you’re uncomfortable receiving the text messages. If genders were reversed and it was a woman texting you and not a man, would you still feel uncomfortable? Talk to your husband and to your friends and come up with a way to address the situation. Sounds like he sees you as a person/potential friend. And your sex and marital status doesn’t matter. Because you are just a friend. If he crosses any lines then shut him down. Not all that often, usually in a group message, but if it’s something that doesn’t concern my wife I don’t see why it would be weird.
What was the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this first thing he ever texted you? Why did she give your number to him in the first place? It is a little strange if out of the blue. Not necessarily bad though. Your friend probably mentioned how important you were to her and him being a great guy, he wants to make an effort with you. It’s honestly so assuring to see the top comments saying it’s not weird. I’m glad reddit still has some sense lol I firmly believe especially since you yourself are married you should not have friends of the opposite sex when in a relationship. Let me put it this way, my wife has friends. The only reason I would text them (outside a group chat) is to plan a surprise for my wife. That a boundary that we have. And it’s a good one. It’s not an insecurity. I trust my wife. I would just rather not give an opportunity to let doors be opened. If you all four were friends and hanging out, then it would be normal. However, if you don’t know each other in person, texting is a little too familiar. I think it’s pretty weird! I had this happen to me as well, or something similar. It just felt wrong, and eventually I asked the guy to stop texting me. I know that might not be appropriate for your situation. Anyway, I’m 40 F so maybe I’m just old too Have we failed men as a society so much that simply trying to make small talk and create relationships is seen as suspect?

But I really wanted to say that you are a quality individual and I like your ethics and handling of the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this situation. I’m 37. I think it’s weird. I would never text my friend’s husband’s or my husband’s friends. Find line of inappropriate. You barely know him which makes it weirder. Even our next door neighbors (early 40’s), if I want the man to know something I’ll have my husband text him and I’ll text the wife. Is this an islam thing? Or maybe like Amish? Orthodox something? I’m not trying to be xenophobic or anything, but you sound like you’re either from the 1700s or from iran or something. You’re just making it weird, sorry. Honesty, it does sound weird to me. You’ve only met twice. Apparently, you didn’t have some big bonding moment. I can understand him wanting to text once you guys have grown close in an organic way. I have a friend whose 10 years younger, and I would definitely have had questions if her guy started texting me randomly after meeting him twice and without me giving him my number. It’s not like he asked you. I see why you’d have questions, and I agree with you that it’s off. Trust your gut. Also, no one should be giving out anyone else’s number without permission. All wrong.
It seems weird to me, as I’d assume he’s building up to something more flirty in the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this long run. I’d mention it casually in a funny way to my friend since she gave him the number, then I’d drop it. If she was fine with it then I’d text him back extra slowly, like 2-3 days later so he’d eventually stop. I think it’s a bit weird, I would be weirded out by it. Things can seem innocent but they can’t quickly turn weird. Everyone has a “bad” side. Everyone. I would just keep an eye on it It’s weird.. Why’s she giving her man your #?!? Did she actually give it to him, or did he get it from her phone? He’d be blocked if I were you! If you respect bro code. You wouldn’t text back at all and tell him straight up you just don’t. Because of that reason.
These comments genuinely make me feel weird reading that some think it’s weird OP finds it weird to be contacted through text by the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this eventual spouse of her protégé.. do you think she is making a mistake marrying the guy? No matter what – hiding your feelings solves nothing and if you’d prefer no contact or correspondence only through smoke signal/email/postal/pigeon then you can continue to wonder which of you is weird or you can easily solve this weird dilemma with a brief meeting. Best of luck Ma Maybe young Romeo sees you as a motherly figure too, or auntly since you’re not that much older. Or maybe just sisterly. Let’s hope so anyway. I’m also pretty old and don’t know if it’s weird, but why would your friend even give you her boyfriends number in the first place? He’s infatuated by you being a little bit older, being a younger guy he probably thinks you feel his gf I’d sort of naive and he looking for you to initiate some kind of flirtation. He probably has a fantasy about you and is trying to put himself into a situation where some kind of flirtation happens “in an innocent” way. I care about all my girlfriends friends and I consider them to be my friends as well. But I have “0” interest in texting small talk or chit chat with any of them whether it be regarding my significant other or not. I’d just answer whatever question he texts about and then respond….”im Sorry did you need something else”
I don’t know about weird. But I would consider it a little inappropriate. Inappropriate behavior often leads to bad behavior even if it was never intended. If I were you, I would cut it off immediately. If nothing else, it prevents him growing infatuated and taking a misstep that he can’t take back. The one comment that crosses the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this line. Asking a question that shows interest beyond simple communication. It is simple and unnecessary things like this that lead to bigger problems. He is young and may not understand that yet. Don’t be the one to give him that experience. The best relationships are the ones where your partner appreciates and strengthens your relationships with your friends. One way to do this is by being friends with those friends.
Im a 33M and i say there’s no friendship between a attractive woman and a man, we will always have second intentions, now if you are a male and say im wrong, you are gay!! This is the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this most honest answer in the world.. PS: I said attractive women, if you are ugly you can become our brother. I just don’t have anyone that I can really call a friend. my life is like a camp for husband’s who have a the type of wife that controls your life. I’ve given up everything that I wanted out of life just trying to keep her happy Could it be fine? Sure. As a guy, I’m not starting a personal relationship with my friends SO. If my friend was texting my SO on the side all the time, I’d be very weirded out. Everyone wants to sound open and young about this but in reality it’s kind of fucking weird to just be texting you all the time.
Well, she saw nothing wrong with it, perhaps he does this sort of thing. So it didn’t seem weird to her. Maybe he’s just… Extra social? Keep the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this replies short and sweet and you’ll be fine. Whenever you get to have an outing with your friend and you find a good mom just ask her why did he reach out to you as you find it curious. It is a little odd. My wife and I are in our 30s. I’d find it strange if a 20 something year old guy she didn’t really know started texting her. I think it is inappropriate because and maybe I’m wrong but it sounds to me like he’s using you to keep track of her. Or to find out information that she has not told him. That’s just my opinion. are you attractive ? if yes then he probably likes texting his fiancés fit friend. if you’re not attractive then he’s just being friendly This is so funny. I (46f) have a male colleague (28) who texts and messages me, which i find a little strange. He’s in a serious relationship and I’ve met his gf. My bf (44) has a woman (24) who he worked with who texts and calls him often. It makes him really uncomfortable, and he almost never responds. She’s married, and is the one who set us up (I work with her mom). Maybe it’s generational? We’re just old and have been hit on by so many random men and cheaters over the years that that is what we’re weary of? Idk You are absolutely right to be guarded. There’s a reason why you have that intuition. For now just let things be….Trust but verify. The only problem is that your friend gave out your contact info without your permission, which is rude imo, so maybe you should ask her not to do that again
Some people just really like to text and become friends over text, probably picked up on the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this mentor/big sis vibe from the girlfriend and wanted to seek it out in their own way. Not the way I like to do things so I might find it jarring as well but that’s my own hangups It’s either 1 of 2 things. He’s either a genuinely great, outgoing person who’s trying to connect with the people closest to his fiance, OR he’s a sociopath or something along those lines. There’s really no other options IMO OP, I feel the same way – never share someone’s phone number without permission. I’d be uncomfortable with this because it seems like neither person gave any consideration to whether you’d be open to conversing with this guy via text. I agree, you and your husband should meet with your girlfriend and her fiance a few times as couples that should help all of you
I think he’s trying to open a door. What’s the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this point of sending such meaningless texts. And the fact that after the first text he texted you again to let you know it was him says to me that he was paying attention and waiting for a response. So far you’re right, there’s nothing behind these but there is all ulterior motive. I just don’t know what it is. Maybe he has to have the last word? It’s a weird one. I’ve met people like him who just like to text for no real reason other than they are bored Baffles me that people are okay with this. Normal well adjusted people don’t need to get to know the people in their woman’s (significant others life). If the person is around, you’ll get to know them.
Considering that the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this overwhelming majority of the comments on this post support this as perfectly acceptable and appropriate behavior, I think there certainly is a “normal”. And your opinion is outside of that normal. Definitely A bit odd… But as you mentioned, it might be him just trying to form a little bit of connection with someone who his fiance seems important to her. As long as it stays friendly and mostly professional it’s fine. Should that change… 🤔 It’ll be not good. It is a bit weird indirectly asking for a number and in the first text not specifying who it is from? Like he was ‘testing the waters’… It is a little strange to be honest. I honestly think it’s poor form to hand out anyone’s number without consulting the person first out of courtesy, no matter who it is you’re giving it to. I also would not appreciate some dude messaging my wife in this situation where the guy asked for her number as it seems strange that he would want it no matter how innocuous the messages are. To me there’s no reason any guy should be messaging someone else’s wife just to chit chat. It’s he’s laying the groundwork.
I’ve been married to a controlling ah who was very friendly with my friends. It ended up being another way he controlled me. However, I’m an introverted person who doesn’t trust well. My experiences do not dictate anyone elses. He could just be a generally friendly dude. It’s probably fine but if you’re uncomfortable with it, just tell him that you appreciate it but that it makes you feel awkward. I agree with what some others are saying. As long as he doesn’t get weird or inappropriate it’s fine. He could just want another friend. God knows people could use more of them these days. I would agree though if he starts getting weird, definitely drop the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this responses and tell your husband about it. Other than that, dude sounds cool to me.
I don’t message my friends partners unless its something to do with my friend. I am friends with them but always keep that difference in that I am only friends with them through my friend. This happened to me once with a friend’s partner. He kept messaging me about random topics, I thought it was odd but never inappropriate. A few years later, he got an autism diagnosis and it all clicked. Not saying that’s what’s going on with this guy, but some people just have different views of social norms. it is kinda weird that he ask for your number from her after only meeting you twice. Also not mentioning why he got your number. If he texted you first like, “hope you don’t mind me messaging you since you always look out for her I’m just keeping your number saved just incase I need it” or something along the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this lines of this. people are ignoring the sticking point here. you didn’t say “oh he wants to get to know me, thats weird” he specifically asked for your number without him (or more importantly the work daughter) clearing it first. and then didn’t even clarify it was him at first. given how it started it is a bit weird. but-
i also don’t think he has bad intentions. he actually might have been trying to do it right, i think the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this WD might have made it come off to a bad start by not clearing if sharing your number was fine than anything he did specifically. i think its ok to talk to him, as long as he keeps it appropriate If you’re attractive, there is a good chance that he has some intentions towards you. If not, then he’s just being goofy. Honestly I would cut off contact slowly. Don’t reply or take a really long time to reply and only reply with dry one word messages. You are her friend not his friend. Think about it…IF he does get inappropriate, it is going to put a wedge in your friendship or maybe end your friendship. I would never just hand out someone’s number. I always ask them first. Always. That part seems especially weird to me.
The example you gave is harmless. Just ask your friend not to give out your number without asking, next time, that’s the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this weird part. My thoughts are you’re 100% right to be guarded. Keep your husband in the loop, the moment the texts get too frequent or familiar, ignore him. 5% chance he’s creeping on you, but probably mostly he’s just a good kid, and young people treat texting differently anyway. I agree it’s weird. Obviously you are uncomfortable with it, so I would take several days to respond to texts, and only with vague or brief answers. Maybe he will get the hint. I think you’re handling it the most appropriate way. I agree it’s a little off to be honest lol stay guarded my friend! 939 more repliesI don’t know where else to post, but I (32M) just came back from a very confronting month long trip though Europe where everything went just like I wasn’t expecting it. Last year I also went and it was life changing, this time around, most of it wasn’t memorable or it ended up being tainted by other situations. Now I’m back in my country and on the ride from the airport to my place I felt overwhelmingly sad and not excited to be here, almost feels like I don’t belong or there’s nothing else for me in my city. It was a confronting trip because I traveled with my best friend and it turned out that our expectations were very different even in terms of budget, so I was constantly questioning life, I also didn’t feel like I got to experience and enjoy most of the cities the way I would have done so by myself. I did spend another couple of weeks without him and those were way better but I wouldn’t call this an amazing vacation.
I live in Mexico City, reverse culture shock definitely played a part coming back home but I didn’t experience this last year so idk. I live a very good life here, I enjoy my job and family, but the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this feeling is still there.I used to spend every summer somewhere and every time I left to return to my city, I was heartbroken. Everyone told me I just liked being on vacation. After ten years of that, I moved to the summer spot. That was four years ago. I’ve never been happier. That can go both ways. I know a few people who have moved to a beautiful summer vacation lake town that I go to every summer. Turns out it’s too small of a community for most people to feel comfortable, especially during the long, dark winters. It’s kinda happening to me rn, I loved visiting Europe especially the Netherlands, Austria and Denmark. Currently I’m being interviewed for job positions in those countries that are willing to sponsor the work permit. Fingers crossed
One time I was at my outdoor table at my usual coffee shop, just back from India. I was miserable. At the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Oregon Duck 2024 Rose Bowl Head to Head Pasadena California shirt Also,I will get this next table a guy was sitting alone and obviously trying not to cry. Turned out he was just back from Spain. Both of us were sad to be back in the USA and both of us felt that people in other countries are more respectful and warmer. I bet a lot of people experience this! I had this coming back from India too. I was away for a month, and when I got back my partner picked me up from the airport. On the way home we stopped at a mini Tescos (food store in the uk) and he ran in. I just sat in the grey car park, in the grey drizzle, looking at the bins at the back of Tescos and I felt grey too.
