It’s only at newly 39 that I’m beginning to see that self-love is a handy gift. It powered me through the Official Parrot Art Cooktail Shirt in other words I will buy this angsty adolescent years—when I was no fan of the flat chest, braces, and botched Rachel cut in the mirror, but I still fancied myself a decent poet and ballerina. When I got older and met guys who did not love me… it hurt, but I loved myself enough not to deem myself unworthy even if they did. (When one told me I was only getting into top-tier colleges because of my last name, I didn’t believe that, either.) Loving myself has perhaps never more valuable than in motherhood, where there is a deranged premium on pain, suffering, and general martyrdom to the point of losing yourself. I didn’t necessarily realize it at the time, but I asked for help from the beginning, I stopped breastfeeding well before the six-month-mark to preserve my sanity as I returned to work, and I continue to carve out time for my individual life because, in addition to loving my kids, I actually love myself, too.

Self-love is a virtue—or it should be, anyway. But it still feels taboo, almost to the Official Parrot Art Cooktail Shirt in other words I will buy this point of cringe-worthy, to admit out loud, in a public forum. I’m fighting the urge to add a thousand qualifiers here, a sprawling list of all my flaws (and indeed there are many). It’s a popular misconception that loving yourself means you’re monstrously vain, self-centered and/or think you’re superior to others. On the contrary, I know acutely that you can self-love and self-loathe. Sometimes I can’t stand myself, just like I can’t stand other people that, deep-down, I adore.

I found the design studio easy to use, although knowing exactly where the design would appear on the garment is a little hit and miss as it is a static image. Perhaps a “Put logo in centre of shirt” or other standard locations could be added? Products were despatched promptly and were of good print quality. Considering the current situation I was very impressed by Streetshirts service and will be using them for our printed merchandise on our website
