The current old generation grew up in a world where they just had to show up to be successful. Buy a house for $5k? Congrats, it’s now worth $5million. They have no concept of reality or struggle. A lot of uneducated and gullible old (white) people with conservative views that spread those views to their gen x children who are equally as gullible and uneducated. Lots and lots of morons who are easily grifted. They do one or two things their entire lives and never really learn much. Big orange man speak mind. Me like. Is basically their beliefs. Without reading anyone else: ignorance, religion, being poorly informed, racism, greed, selfishness, and people who like bullies. If that last one sounds weird, I’ve noticed every Trump supporter I know was either a bully themselves or they looked up to bullies. All of them. They’re entirely missing the point. So many middle Americans have been disenfranchised and let down by politicians again and again that they just want someone, from the outside to cause chaos and completely tear the current ruling system down. They see an attack on him as a witch-hunt on their ideas. Hell, half the stuff Trump has done downright goes against a lot of core GOP beliefs. But that’s the thing, half these people are done with the GOP. Short of completely disavowing middle America, trump can literally not do anything to break the support of a lot of these people, because they really don’t give a shit about the person. It’s literally just the idea of him. People are sick of a 2 party system, it’s really not that difficult of things to understand. I think the rise of Bernie Sanders on the left is actually in part caused by the same phenomenon. I think Bernie and Trump probably have more crossover with voter intentions than other members of their own party to be honest.

She believed his promises about helping rural America, even though his personal history and own words and actions said otherwise. People often don’t vote for someone but against someone else. I think this was key to Biden’s success, because it wasn’t that Biden was a great candidate, it’s that people just didn’t like Trump, and they “voted blue no matter who” Where you live and what you watch has a big influence. My in-laws live in a very red part of rural America. It’s so red that over 80% of people who voted, voted for Trump. They’re also regular Fox News watchers (with Fox News being my FIL’s homepage) so it’s a pretty big echo chamber of right-wing. If someone in town or on TV says Joe is bad or Hillary is evil, you’re not going to get any kind of resistance because you’ll be shouted down. But with that said, Trump is doing well in rural America, but not everyone in the US lives in rural America, so what you’re seeing is an overrepresentation of an underpopulated area in the media.
