Except in this case there are actual laws against having food in funeral homes and similar places. Most people haven’t heard of them, but there’s actual laws. Yeah but from what I’ve been reading, it refers to funeral homes allowing catered food into funeral homes, or providing the food for people themselves. It varies by state, so without knowing your state laws I can’t say what it actually says. Sometimes laws intending for one purpose go far beyond it. Either way, I can see the church thinking the laws applied to anyone with food or drink in a funeral and freaking out about it. Most people aren’t lawyers and their understanding of the laws isn’t perfect even when they are trying. That’s what I’m thinking. The daughter will benefit much more from having her dad cuddle and play with her than spend hours pouring over Michigan state laws to defend her right to drink some milk. Have I heard of this specific thing? Nope. Have I heard of a church making random rules up and forcing them on people? Why yes, yes I have.
