okay 9 hours is too much but i’ve done volunteering for music festivals and it was great because you get in for free and can do whatever after It’s probably a shit festival anyways, so a ticket doesn’t matter because you wouldn’t want to go to what is probably some podunk local festival. It highlights a problem though: people are so badly paid in their job, that volunteering is not even an option anymore. Therefore less solidarity and it becomes a vicious circle. I’ve donated my time to non-profits in return for a letter stating that I donated $X worth of value, then I write that off my taxes. If musicians i was interested in were playing id volunteer to get in for free then just slip away and take of the security tee. I like the volunteering community. I volunteered as first-aid personnel at a festival last weekend where everybody volunteered (security, kitchen staff, security, etc.), which meant a lot more prominent artists could attend the festival, and tickets were cheap. If everybody agrees on the circumstances, and it has a positive effect, I don’t see the problem 😀 Lol I’ve volunteered at music festivals before but they were rarely over 4 hour shifts, and often got excused early. They were always in the morning so I could go see bands later. I did a variety of tasks like: cleaning up trash, checking in other volunteers, helping out with catering, etc. But the idea of volunteer security which could result in you getting hurt is bullshit. Yeah my work wanted me to do this for an upcoming air show. I was like no I’m not volunteering for an air show, boss was like why not? I said I work here full time and get the weekends on OT. Even if I did sign up I’d still expect to be paid not volunteer for the job I work at
