Yeah, I think this is going to be an uncomfortable but needed conversation. Should I speak to her as her brother, or get my girlfriend to speak to her? My girlfriend is a bit worried about offending her, a problem that I do not have Maybe decide between the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this two of you who feels most comfortable doing it and go from there. It’s probably best if it doesn’t feel like a confrontation but more of a helping hand, get her out of the cycle of copying someone until they’re no longer friends and rinse and repeat. Maybe decide between the two of you who feels most comfortable doing it and go from there. It’s probably best if it doesn’t feel like a confrontation but more of a helping hand, get her out of the cycle of copying someone until they’re no longer friends and rinse and repeat. That’s a great point, this has been a cycle so it would be good for my sister to find her own style and hopefully make some meaningful relationships with new friends.

NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt: Get Cozy in this shirt

Idk your sister but I think if I were to put myself in her shoes, I’d probably really appreciate if the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this girlfriend spoke to me about it. Especially if it was coming from a loving place rather than a ‘please stop copying me, it annoys me’. If my brother were to come to me about this kinda thing I’d be upset as I would have known your gf has complained about it to you, which in my eyes would be more embarrassing. She’s your family, you speak to her. It’s the rules in relationships: you have difficult conversations with your own family. Places such as John Lewis offer free, bookable personal styling sessions. There’s zero pressure to buy anything at all and they will work to your sister’s budget. The stylist will ask what your sister likes in terms of style, colour, fabric etc. Your sister could go and say she wants to try different tops/trousers/skirt/complete outfit that suit her body shape, complexion blah, blah. She’ll get to try loads and loads of things and see what she likes the most.
If your girlfriend has made it clear that it makes her uncomfortable and she wishes your sister to stop, and she has refused, then it is no longer ‘arguably nice’. In any case, perhaps you could gift her a styling session for her next birthday. Getting her colours ‘done’ and shape analysed may help her find her own style I think some of these replies are a bit harsh, she clearly struggling with her sense of self. I wonder if your gf could maybe just talk to her about how she found her own style. I’m AuDHD and physical appearance has absolutely been part of my masking, especially as a woman who ‘needs’ to look a certain way to fit in to our society. Caitlin Moran says something I will paraphrase badly, but essentially the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this reason why some women have a full wardrobe but ‘nothing to wear’ is because they have nothing for the person they need to ‘be’ that day and that really spoke to me. For those who don’t know about the typical female presentation, it can be quite different from the male. Girls with high-functioning autism are known for ‘masking’, which often involves studying how successfully social people do things and trying to deliberately imitate them. Combine that with our tendency for special interests/fixations, and it could look a lot like OP’s sister’s behaviour. Yes, as I was writing it, I was aware I was describing myself when younger too. (I’m way too old and tired for masking these days, but I did it for decades before the mask crumbled.) This is worth considering, and my favourite answer, especially as this is not the first example. It could be a coping technique to just try and ‘fit in’, if inside she doesn’t know how to behave and dress; copy someone she knows who seems popular or that she looks up to.

About this NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt

Some of these other commenters should stop and think that maybe there is stuff in this world that they don’t know about (I would have been guilty of this just 12 short months ago, but I definitely wouldn’t have piped up with my opinion). I was going to suggest this too, you and your gf and possible family could go in on getting this as a gift. I think it would be so much more valuable to help her find her own sense of style with an objective outsider rather than go shopping with your gf, where your sister will probably just pick things she thinks your gf would like and a) wouldn’t learn anything about herself and b) that experience could be really hard to navigate nicely for your gf Ask your girlfriend if she wouldn’t mind taking her shopping or even recommending some of her favourite fashion influencers to her as inspiration. That was she can dress in the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this style she likes without copying exact outfits. Does your sister have ADHD by any chance? It almost sounds like she’s hyper fixating on certain people and their style then gets bored after a while and changes it up
I think it’s fine to be influenced by others, and that’s a normal part of growing up and finding your own style. But repeatedly copying exact outfits is a bit more concerning, and I think it’s good that you’re catching this early. There’s a lot of good advice in this thread about how to approach your sister, but I would also encourage you to check in with your partner to see if she needs support. I had a friend online years ago who had something similar happen to her (except it was her ex’s new girlfriend doing the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this copying which made it even more creepy), and it really messed her up. In an effort to escape the copycat, she would end up drastically changing her whole style and buying whole new wardrobes, only for this other girl to immediately do the same thing (and the girl refused to admit to what she was doing, insisting it was just a coincidence). It really affected my friend’s confidence and sense of self, and she ended up quitting social media and going out less, just to avoid this girl. new girlfriend doing the copying which made it even more creepy), and it really messed her up. My partner and I have talked about it, and she does think it is weird but is trying to see the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this funny/nice side of the situation. None the less, i think it needs nipping in the bud like you say. Some people it might take some time, others not so much. It took me a very long time to be comfortable and relaxed with myself. I think my mid 30s. not excusing what she’s doing but i agree with the top comment as i used to be like this with the popular girls at school, i would copy how they did their hair and makeup and their accessories and style. because i had no self esteem and didn’t know who i wanted to be, i just thought if i copied cool people then i would be doing it right.. i suggest your sister looks at pinterest for different styles and aesthetics and maybe she will like the look of one and want to try it out. if she copies the exact outfit of a random model on pinterest that’s not the same as it being someone she knows personally and sees all the time so there isn’t any problem (although it wont help the issue of no self identity). she probably just really likes your sister’s style but doesn’t know how to come up with outfits in that style herself but pinterest could help with that
This seems like there are some deeper psychological issues going on and I’d strongly recommend supporting your sister is opening up to receiving professional help. The comment about her staying in relationships she isn’t happy in and doing this to multiple people until she forces them away is something we can all guess and comment on but you shouldn’t be taken the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this word of strangers on Reddit, and instead speak to your sister directly about it. Odd suggestion, but get her to watch the film Runaway Bride, Richard Gear/Julia Roberts, it’s about a woman who doesn’t know what she likes as she copies her future husband, your sister might take a lesson from it and figure out how she really likes her eggs. I was going to say, I’ve seen this film. It ended with someone stuck in a washing machine and a case of mistaken identity. 7/10
Is your sister neurodivergent by chance? She may just need all of this explained to her rather than someone taking the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this piss It sounds to me as if she needs therapy. I was much like your sister when I was young, and it stemmed from developmental trauma (from neglectful and abusive parenting). I’m not for a minute suggesting your sister’s upbringing has been abusive, but there is usually a reason for such deep insecurity and searching for an identity. A normal person is not equipped to understand neuro divergence, especially in girls. I know, it was me not long ago. ‘Masking’ (I prefer the word ‘coping’), is extremely common in affected girls. I’m not saying she is; in saying if she was, I don’t think the average person is equipped to know.
I think others idea of you and your gf taking her shopping alongside a calm explanation is likely the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this best option Does your sister have a sister? If she is the only girl in the family I wouldn’t be surprised by her behaviour. It sounds like she really looks up to your girlfriend. Around that age, it’s not uncommon to crave a sister/girl friend to look up to and that sometimes manifests as someone to share fashion tips with. In terms of the outfits, it sounds like she’s trying to experiment with her fashion (completely normal at her age), and is using your girlfriend as inspiration. I would do what others have commented and try to steer her to other ideas, like Pinterest, going shopping, getting her a Vogue magazine?
She is the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this only girl, we do have a couple of female cousins but they are well into their 30’s with multiple kids now. The only other cousin is a lad who is my age, so my partner is the only woman in the family a similar age to my sister and i think she does look up to her. As kids, my sister was really into what i was into (football atc.) to the point she used to walk around everywhere in a football kit. She just really laches onto stuff I honestly don’t see anything wrong with this, but you could have a word about maybe not buying the exact same things. When I was younger, my older sister met a guy (now brother in law!) and he was a trendy guy. I was turning 18 and my entire life revolved around football or wearing band clothing, so I was either in a football shirt or Arctic Monkeys Tee for instance. I copied the ever loving fuck out of that dude, but instead of being weirded out he was nice and spent time chatting to me about nice clothes and how to find my own variation. Long story short, i now have what I’d consider a great dress sense of my own but all because I copied him as a teen.
Handle it carefully though. If my sister had come to me and said her boyfriend thought I was weird for copying him I’d have been super embarrassed, and I was a super confident teen. If they have that relationship, maybe suggesting your girlfriend offers some advice or takes her shopping would be a great way for your sister to get what she needs (confidence through fashion) without being mini me to your girlfriend I copied the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this ever loving fuck out of that dude, but instead of being weirded out he was nice and spent time chatting to me about nice clothes and how to find my own variation. I think this could be the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this way, I might have to be a good brother and be nice to her, rather than take the piss and make her embarrassed. I feel like as a kid i copied sports people and celebs i liked the style of, but my sister must have just latched onto a style close to her personally. Yeah please don’t embarrass her. Not only will it make her feel really bad and is completely unnecessary but it will probably result in her resenting your girlfriend. Yeah, first instinct with siblings is take the piss and that’s usually the right call but I think with something like this I really really benefitted from the nice approach. If it helps, I’ve spoken to my BIL about it years later and he took it as a huge compliment that he was seen as cool. Which may be a nice way to frame it for your girlfriend.
I think your sister is sweet. I’m sure it’s annoying, if you’re someone who’s bothered about having a unique “look”, but ultimately, your sister likes how your girlfriend dresses, and probably looks up to her and sees her as cool and grown up, and she’s just trying to emulate that. If I was your girlfriend, I’d take your sister out shopping and help her pick out some things that are more unique to her. There’s a chance to build friendships rather than resentment here. I had a friend exactly like this NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this and I had to cut her off. The behaviour was creepy, it didn’t stop at clothes, and after a while just got disturbing. No amount of me asking her nicely or bluntly to “stop”, made her actually stop. She actually flat out told me “No.” at one point. It’s not healthy… Maybe she (girlfriend) should cut complete contact: Stop going over yours and you guys go to her’s, find a new place to work, block her on social media. That type of behaviour is obsessive and needs to be addressed.
Is it possible that your sister may be on the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this autism spectrum? Mimicking and imitation are frequently observed traits in girls with autism, and they may use these behaviors as a means of ‘fitting in.’ Research has shown that many girls with autism excel at social camouflaging, which involves adapting and masking their autistic traits to better navigate social situations. Unfortunately, girls with autism often go undiagnosed because their presentation can differ from the more commonly studied patterns observed in boys. It’s essential to recognize that the existing understanding and stereotypes of autism are primarily based on male experiences, and girls may display unique traits that don’t fit these traditional expectations. Exploring the concept of social camouflaging in autism could provide valuable insights into your sister’s behavior.
Assimilation is all about trying to fit in. This is masking on a much deeper level, as it’s no longer about covering up some proclivities, but about presenting as someone you are not, so as to avoid being excluded. In assimilation, you have to force yourself to engage socially, or avoid it altogether. To the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this extent you do force yourself to engage, you basically have to put up a performance. Some autistic women reported they consciously “cloned” themselves based on a popular girl in their class whilst at school, and would imitate their conversational style, intonation, movements, dress-style, interests, and other mannerisms, in minute detail. First and foremost being a teenage girl is awful you couldn’t pay me to go back. Hormones raging, insecure, no sense of identity. It sounds like your sister really struggles to find her own place and sense of self, and is trying to imitate people she admires. It sounds like she has a hard time keeping friends so her self esteem likely isn’t great.
I would suggest first and foremost you talk to her. Ask her how she’s doing etc as a big brother. I would then tell her she’s making your girlfriend uncomfortable and causing her issues at work. Suggest the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this two of them meet for coffee. And then your girlfriend needs to be honest that this is upsetting her etc. Then your girlfriend could suggest they go shopping together. Pick out things your sister likes, pick out things she is drawn to. Create a moodboard, you as big brother just offer support. Alternatively, your gf could tell your sister that she finds her outfits online using certain social media influencers and you could then direct your sister to these Influencers. Your sister would then have a steady stream of new outfit choices that come from fashionable people that aren’t your gf. That way your sister will also have mountains of inspiration for new outfits that aren’t your gfs. Given the context provided in your comments, this sounds like a maladaptive pattern of behaviour, and although I get why your partner says you shouldn’t get involved, I think your sister and gf need you in this.
Now I dont know why she does this- this behaviour was set off by something (e.g. stress, maybe life events, changes in relationships etc) and your sister does this in response. The issue will come when your sister doesn’t stop, and if she’s done this before without changing her behaviour, she might not change even if confronted by your gf. This is where you need to come in because your gf would get creeped out, be tense with her, and it’ll lead to issues with you. I would be blunt if your sibling relationship if like mine; after all, you’re her brother and are one of the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this few who can tell it to her straight. She’s self-sabotaging herself and her relationships – it’s creepy, it doesn’t make people like her but pushes them away, and she won’t actually be able to connect with anybody if all she can be is a mirror. She might need to look for some help with her GP if it’s related to mental health. Mimicry, difficulties in romantic relationships, and inability to maintain long-term lasting relationships (friend or otherwise) are quite common in BPD, although it could be a neurodivergency. If it is related to one of these, she may need a lot of support to get the right resources and help. It can be difficult, esp with NHS cuts and referral waiting lists.
You really need to firstly get your sister to stop this immediately, and secondly get her help to address the NFL Philadelphia Eagles Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue The Cowboys Suck And The Giants Do Too Shirt and I love this issue behind this. The traditional solution to this on Reddit is for your GF to pretend to shave her head through a social media post and wait for the copycat to actually do it. In real life, this just sounds like a case of hero worship of an older, presumably cooler, person. I think it will disappear in time but maybe have a little chat and suggest your sister stops as people are commenting. She should also learn to be less bothered by it. If she’s a bit of a fashion type with a distinct style then she will get copied. Easy fix. Out spend her. Go to high end shops expensive brands, if she is still keeping up start getting stuff hand made in Paris. I’m sure she will run out of money before you do.
