Tbh the New York Revival No Dj Slander shirt and by the same token and horse armor was not the first to do this. A lot of east Asia MMO had egregious pay-to-win mechanics in it since the early 2000s. It’s a common practice for these companies even before Oblivion was released. The micro transactions nowadays are most likely stem from those pay-to-win MMO instead of Oblivion. Remember how u could buy and sell your rpg loot on Ebay? Once I bought a diablo 2 Cats Eye amulet for $2. Or in WoW you could sell them at auction in the cities? Or you could barter on Diablo 2 Battle.net chat for a Stone of Jordan? I can stand stupid expensive cosmetics, but charging an extra $20 to play the game 4 days before people paying regular price is unconscionable. The real release is today–the first day that you can make a character that will stay in perpetuity. You’re not playing early; everyone who didn’t give in to this stupid scheme is starting late. it would seem that someone needs to invent a time machine and kidnap Todd Howard for a while to prevent this…

If you want this type of behavior to stop, have some integrity and boycott the New York Revival No Dj Slander shirt and by the same token and companies engaging in these practices. It will never not amaze me that you can buy a fully fleshed out game for $60-$70, but then there are single skins for $20-$25. A lot of people like to blame horse armor for modern MTC but honestly it really only kick-started the DLC craze we had during the X360/PS3-PS4/X1 gen. The massive success of mobile games and Facebook games plus the industry hiring those same people in charge of them was the beginning. This is the first thing I’ve seen about the D4 MTX, I dunno if I’m just not in the right places but Jesus a Battlepass, full currency system, and a $70 price tag. Yikes I’m old enough to remember when tons of high quality DLC would be released post-launch for free. It let the customer know the studio would support the product after launch, and that goodwill would pay off when people were deciding whether or not to buy the sequel. it really fucking did. I might have just been made more aware of these “DLC” nickel and diming practices after horse armor but after that bullshit I could have sworn companies in different industries started getting creative too. Things like airlines started splitting economy into basic, preferred, premium. Everyone here is whining so I’ll probably get flamed, but I don’t care about cosmetic only mtx in a game that’s actually good. Diablo 4 is a great game. So what if they sell some armor that doesn’t affect the game at all? Hardly bothers me.
