Recap exactly what happened, how they messed up & that it is their responsibility. We did this with our twins when the Dr’s office mixed up which twin needed to have a test for a suspected condition at birth. Both twins wound up being tested & they paid the hospital bill for the one who didn’t need to be tested. NAL but spent the past year with similar health insurance issues bc of a broken ankle and arm. The doctors office is “at fault” for submitting the tests to a company not in network. You’re insurance is right to say that they can’t super do anything, BUT they should be able to contact the doctors office on your behalf to figure it out. You should not take blame as it was done incorrectly by the doctors office. Keep appealing and keep calling to see if they’ve figured out a solution. You are not responsible to pay a bill bc a doctors office messed up. See recent laws in 2021 on surprise billing.

It is YOUR responsibility. That is correct, but it sounds like this situation was that the doctors office didn’t send the blood to the lab they were told to. That should be on the doctors office, I would file against them in small claims. If the doctor is in network, it very well could be their responsibility. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the agreement with the insurance company that makes them part of the network also says they’ll send stuff to the right lab. That is false. Medical biller here. If the mistake was made by the office then they need to make it right. It’s on them The mistake was on the patient not knowing which Labs were in or out of network for their specific plan that they should have read the details on and been responsible for. It is their responsibility to ensure it’s sent to the correct lab when they’ve been made aware of the appropriate lab by the patient. I had this happen years ago. They knew which lab to send it to, documented in my chart. They sent it to the wrong lab. I fought it for months and eventually the lab wrote it off. I filed a complaint with my insurance and every other medical board I could find against the office which created policy changes to ensure that every patient who had labs drawn was given a copy of the lab form to confirm it was going to the right place before sending. This is true, but from what OP said they had blood drawn, and it was sent to a lab by the doctors office. Doctors offices may send out to one or two labs depending on test/ insurance etc. however they’ve sent bloodwork for OP before to the right lab. Doesn’t seem fair to op that something is out of their control, especially when they’ve been sent to the proper lab before, why would they assume someone would fuck up?
