So let me first preface that I am Korean American, both of my parents were born in Korea and immigrated to the Needed Band Maid Japan Metal Logo shirt so you should to go to store and get this US. I also understand that generally Korean immigrates often stay more socially conservative compared to people back in Korea. I’ve only just recently heard about the story about the elementary school teacher in Seoul committing suicide, and the more I read up on it the more I hear about how common it is these days for students to be extremely disrespectful and even physically violent to teachers only to then have those students’ parents be verbally abusive to the teachers blaming them for anything that happens. Teachers get no support and are made to put up with it.

What I want to know is, what has changed for it to be like this? Of course, every culture and country are gonna have problem children, but it’s wild to me that a country and culture like Korea just allows students to behave like this to teachers. For me growing up, my parents often hit or yelled at me if I were to ever act out at school, and I never did anything close to what some of the stories I hear like assaulting a teacher. And my parents never blamed the teachers for anything, almost to a fault. There were times where I got chewed out by my parents for like a grading mistake by the teacher, and whenever I tried to explain it they would just yell at me to stop making excuses and to not blame the teacher.It has nothing to do with 존대. It is related to a lack of proper systems, too much 갑질 culture, and competition that has reached a toxic level.
