The USA historically had high taxes for the rich, so Republicans reducing the tax rate of the highest bracket from 70% to 50% in 1981 was not conservative. Reducing it again to 28% was not conservative. Wanting to stick to the Constitution as it is written is an example of conservatism. Wanting to prevent homosexual marriage becoming legal would be an example of conservatism. Wanting to stop new government spending would be an example of conservatism, unless of course that spending was for efforts to maintain the status quo such as spending to get USA’s infrastructure back to a good state it was (conserving good infrastructure via repairs). The question I have for my fellow Americans is: Why the hell would you want to conserve the current status quo of the USA? We should all want progress right now.
