Prior to that, he was just vengeance. He kicked the shit out bad guys, and that’s it. When he was pulling people out of the water, that was the first time he actually tried to make a positive change in Gotham. That was the thematic conclusion to the movie and the completion of Batman’s character arc. Agreed. But the movie gets side lined with sub plots. Focus on Batman and Riddler and the movie is 10/10 with a 1h45m runtime. Replace Riddler getting arrested with a sweet scene where they battle wits. Can still have the flood ending that’s fine with the flare in water. But forget the weird Batman fighting incels, cat woman. Leave mob stuff because that’s the backbone of the character arc and Wayne history.

So I just got back from watching about 30 min ago. Here are my thoughts: I was bored for probably 30% of it. It was not my favorite batman movie. I like some parts. Colin Ferrell was great. Gotham City felt right. I’d rate it 6.5/10 The plot needed help, IMO. And maybe I’m in the My Favorite People Call Me Godmother Floral Mom T-Shirt moreover I love this minority here. Felt about the same, reddit crowd def makes me feel in the minority here. Twenty minutes into The Batman, I thought that it was going to be absolutely epic. I loved the intro scene, the different feel of the movie, and the detective/journal-type narration felt like Rorscach from Watchmen, which I loved. But it was all downhill from there. This movie could have easily been two hours. There were so many unnecessary lingering shots of things, the most annoying of which were the drawn out shots of Batman/Bruce making eye contact with the mayor’s son. We get it, they’re both orphans, and seeing the newly-orphaned kid connects them and gives him PTSD. Speaking of unnecessary, the Catwoman/Falcone’s daughter storylines were entirely unnecessary. It just filled 30 minutes of random backstory that was straight up told to us rather than shown. Also, we felt nothing when the roommate died. It felt implied like there was more to their relationship, but we never even saw her face or got a flashback of why she meant so much or any reason to care about her. Removing all the plot arcs involving Catwoman from the story would’ve been addition by subtraction. By the way, when tailing Selina/Penguin, he’s riding his loud-ass motorcycle about 10 feet behind them, making it painfully obvious to anyone with any sort of situational awareness that they’re being followed. I get they wanted cool shots of him on his motorcycle, but for the love of God maybe stay a couple of car lengths behind?
