Try not to focus to much on doing it right or if it worked/failed at any particular time or session. This cognitive explanation made a lot more sense to me than bodily metaphors or “letting anything go” ever did. I don’t know if “my way” will make any more or less sense to you! But hopefully one day you’ll come across an explanation that syncs with you. If you’re anything like me, it’ll be as contrasting as night and day!

Here’s some bonus speculation. I have no idea if this is true or not, and maybe some more experienced people can chime in. However, once I started thinking about meditation as controlled attention, I started using my eyes to meditate. Even if my eyes were closed, I would move them in their sockets as if I were looking at whatever I was focussing on, be that a sound or part of my own body in a body scan. In humans, attention and vision are closely linked (I did my PhD on this exact topic) so I wondered if I could guide my attention by making eye movements even with my eyes closed.
