This idea of months or dates to celebrate something is cool and all but not everyone vibes to it, black history month, pride month etc. I’m not Caucasian or Asian or White in anyway. I’m Nigerian, I’m black and basically been in a relationship with my Afrikaans-Indian girlfriend of 8 years if not more. Just giving you a background before everyone makes preconceptions I can’t control and don’t want to address after this. I get the concept behind them, Black people and Bisexual or Homosexuals have been “oppressed” and need to have a happy day or month or something. I find it restrictive, some of these celebrations, if I want to celebrate being me, I’d do it everyday of my life without trying to make myself seem like priority one. If people don’t want to partake or find it annoying let them. Don’t go around bullying them and giving them justification to hate more. What I mean is, if during pride month folks aren’t all in everyone’s faces, people won’t start marking you as a target. I have people who are members of the community and they agree that all this fanfare about identity is pointless. If all what you can celebrate about you is your sexuality then it’s shallow. My friend is gay but he’s a doctor, currently involved in research to help with cancer and I don’t think he goes around letting everyone know he’s gay. Being intelligent, thoughtful and a contributing member to society is why so many folks love him, he hardly cares if anyone gives a flying fuck about his sexuality. I know I don’t. Point is either he cares or not bullying him for not showing interest would make him have the conception of the community being a nuisance and unnecessary attention seekers.

I have the Most old men would have given up by now not like most old men shirt and I love this same preconception for the black community because we complain quite a lot often but when it comes to actually doing shit and helping each other out. It’s another story entirely, we are relying on others to build a good image for us when we don’t individually. There are a lot involved in this but this is what I can say for now. Well. There’s a different from saying “I don’t celebrate pride month” and “I don’t give a fuck about pride month” being bullied for not supporting LGBTQ is like being bullied for religion or being a Sagittarius (or whatever). Its the dumbest thing ever, and anyone who does it is out of their mind. I find that the best way to prove people wrong is to give them a comparison (like what i did above). if you are getting bullied for something or have an idea that everyone thinks is completely stupid, give them a comparison that is basically the same situation as you are in, but it is something they agree on.
