Meanwhile, my sister who’s going to be 26 this year, graduated high school and college with a 4.0 GPA. Made it on the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt in contrast I will get this Dean’s list every semester. My parents would always brag about her while asking “why couldn’t you be more like you sister?” Well now that it’s time for the job market, she is lazy as can be. She is working part time, getting maybe 30 hours, at minimum wage, in a job that doesn’t utilize her degree at all. She walks across the street to get to work. Complains about the most trivial things that almost every has to deal with, like having to drive 15 mins to the grocery store because it’s “so out of the way”. Her boyfriend basically financially supports her. It’s interesting because now my parents get on her ass about getting a real job and ask her why she can’t be more like her brother lol. Work ethic aside, she is just really naive. She lacks experience and doesn’t know how the real world works. I don’t think she’s dumb, but she is slow to certain concepts and oblivious to so many aspects of regular every day life. The interesting part is she leads her life like she’s got everything figured out.

I think it boils down to life experiences. My sister was coddled more than I was, despite my parents not wanting to admit it. I also grew up in a way rougher school district and was exposed to a “rougher” environment. I saw people getting their teeth kicked out in school yard fights, dealing with bomb threats, gang related violence, someone bringing a BB gun to school, all by 7th grade lol. By the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and time she was in middle school, we had moved to a nicer school district. I also strived for independence since a young age. Basically have been working full time since it’s been legal to do so, all so I could have money so I could buy my own things, have my own hobbies, be a little more independent. I was always out of the house, either with friends, gf, or working. She never had any of those experiences. She had friends but mostly stayed at the house just being lazy. Taking naps and watching TV all day. I think she had a job one summer for 2 months. She babysat here an there but never punched a 40 hour week in her life. My parents say they raised us exactly the same but it’s just really not the case.
Valedictorian at my school asked if monkeys laid eggs, asked why an amputee didn’t just grow his arm back… grades mean jack shit. She was dumb as a fucking post unfortunately, super sweet, diligent in her work, but soooo dumb. Thought people driving twenty feet ahead of her where going 100 miles an hour type dumb. Doesn’t know why she got a sunburn in a convertible ‘since she was moving’ dumb. Some people are broadly intelligent. They quickly learn new tasks and see how things go together. Stack them up in a field against anybody that has 10k hours of experience in that thing, they look much less impressive. Anyone that has decided to put their focus on certain specific fields we tend to call intelligent, even if it really just means they went into a broadly respected professional profession (doctor, lawyer, surgeon, engineer). What it really means is they are practiced in a highly technical field with a high knowledge/licensing barrier for entry. A trash hauler, mechanic, or plumber may be much more intelligent than a doctor, but we don’t think of the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and difference, because a lot of people can understand the basics of those professions easier.
Some information about Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt
” Slow” doesn’t necessarily refer to the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and speed at which tasks are done. In education, it can refer to whether people are developing certain skills at typical ages. I used to work with a guy who was brilliant but had no common sense. We used to say that he could calculate the square root of an orange but couldn’t figure out how to peel it or he could calculate the volume of a pickle jar but couldn’t figure out how to open it. Um… Intelligent is not the same as fast. Also, not everyone goes through their daily tasks trying yo see how fast they can do it. A lot of people just let their hands do the muscle memory while the mind wanders. Honestly, in the vast majority of cases, vaccuming the same area 30 secons quicker than someone else is going to make zero practical difference, and that extra effort put in to achieve your competitive goal is completely wasted.
I never noticed plumbing and level until I began my apprenticeship, now I see not plumbing and not level all the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and time. Drives me nuts. Being an honor student doesn’t have anything to do with intelligence, nor does being a student in remedial classes. Case in point, my GPA in highschool was ~2.5. My GPA my first two years of undergrad was ~0.5. But I’m the only one from my highschool class to get a PhD. My standardized tests scores put me in the 99.997th percentile. And my IQ is in the upper range of the fifth quintile. I see it all the time, people who are geniuses in their field but absolutely useless at basic common sense things. Some of it is a question of motivation, why learn to do something when you can just ask someone else to do it for you? The other thing is that certain people think they are so smart and everyone else is dumb when in reality they aren’t that smart at all and just living in a delusion. I’d wager I’m more academically talented than my partner. I also have a habit of overthinking personal problems until I reach a jarring standstill, at which point she intervenes with a simple suggestion. On the other hand, she is an incredibly driven person who often drives herself up the wall by forgetting basic self-care, so I’m there to remind her to Eat A Food. Balance in all things Difference between book learning and real world experience. The ability to remember and parrot back facts does not really equate to the real world. I have known many people “smart’ on paper and useless when it came to the real world.
Check out Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences. It will change the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and way you think of people (on a helpful way). But it really just means you’re good at what is taught in a school. There are many other kinds of intelligence. I know some people like that. One being my dad. Very established and advanced career-wise, hard worker, always learning new things and skills. Also practical things, might I add. But he was also always processing at slow pace, needing a lot of time to space out and think. Just in general a very veeery slow-sailing individual, but not unintelligent by any means. And then some things he clearly considered not his area of interest and in those he seemed to lose any thinking ability he ever had. He did not focus, would not focus, seemed to not grasp a basic concepts like boiling pasta, no matter how many times things were explained and demonstrated to him. He would just drift off to things he was actually interested in, and doing everything other than that super sloppily.
In my experience gained from a career providing IT services to doctors, academic ability has a lot more to do with how well someone is able to follow instructions and stay focused on the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and task at hand rather than how intelligent they actually are. American education is more memorization and instruction following. There’s very little actual thinking involved in my personal experience. If that’s where her aptitudes lie and yours are elsewhere, it’s certainly possible in an unstructured environment such as real life she may seem slow by comparison. Nah it’s the schools. I graduated high school in the middle of my class, from one of the top 10 schools in America. When I went to university, I was easily outperforming many of my friends who graduated high school as valedictorian from rural schools. The standards are not at all comparable. My peers were all taking at LEAST pre-calc by their senior year of high school, some of my college friends said their high school didn’t even offer those courses. In my first year of Uni (2014), I had a professor who was a MD and a PhD, she was really famous in her field and fairly young ? Like she was maybe 40-45 years old, her classes were honestly great.
The notion that intelligence is one-dimensional is absurd. Like saying someone is knowledgeable or experienced. It begs the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and question: At what? Some people absolutely can seem smarter or more knowledgeable or experienced (or many other attributes) than others. Some people excel in many ways, some in few ways. Life isn’t fair. IQ tests may correlate with useful aptitudes, for school or career or financial success. Some people clearly learn math or piano or baseball or French much faster and better than others. But to call it general intelligence is to miss almost the entire point that humans come with a huge variety of aptitudes which we then develop into an even much huger variety of abilities. There are yet more subtleties and complexities. The value of selected abilities comes and goes. At one time knowing how to build boats was the cat’s meow. Now we live in times that are arguably extremely complex and scary. That puts into greater fashion the ability to oversimplify and sooth. Whoever thought of Make America Great Again as a political slogan is a brilliant reader of the times (even if the main beneficiary of it is odious sewer scum).
Finally, that someone is good at one thing doesn’t necessarily predict whether he’ll be good at the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and next. Who would have thought a comic would become possibly the single most charismatic and effective world leader today? Zelenskyy did obtain a law degree but then he jumped to comedy. The lesson isn’t that comedy is or isn’t a great precursor to president (it’s reasonable to think Zelenskyy had politics in mind), it’s that we don’t understand much about how aptitudes turn into accomplishments. So we should be even humbler about asserting what intelligence is and trying to calibrate it. Back to the question, the notion that someone would be good or smart at everything because she’s good or smart at one thing, is misguided to the point of being silly.
I was in the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and military for 9 years, knew some incredibly intelligent people – Doctors, Pilots, Engineers and so on – and you’d be surprised how many are borderline crayon munchers when it comes to every day tasks. Like I knew one engineer, so fucking intelligent when it came to engineering, mathematics and physics but couldn’t wash his clothes properly. His uniform trousers in particular he put on too hot a wash on multiple occasions and shrunk. Once you can write off, when you do it 3/4/5 times you’re a fucking moron. There was a Doctor, incredibly intelligent, would have to put their hands out in front of them at time and make the L shape to work out which was her left and right. And it wasn’t for show either, she wasn’t being funny. I’d see her get in her car with nobody nearby and do it, it was fucking bizarre.
Just because you’re intelligent and can pass tests/retain/repeat knowledge doesn’t necessarily mean you can function in a way the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and average person does The smartest guy I ever met couldn’t change a lightbulb. Practical skills and theoretical knowledge are two completely different things. Different people are different people. I like to believe that there are different types of intelligence and wisdom too, simple as that. I used to work in a biomedical research building years ago, and the number of lab staff doing research I could never dream of understanding who also couldn’t operate a fax machine was astounding. Some people are just different types of smart Doing well in school is all about memory. School is just trying to remember the information that the teacher wants and them giving it back to them. I always have had a bad memory which is why I had to put a lot of time into studying. Some people have a great memory and remember information that is given to them one time. These people are not necessarily “smarter”, they just have a better memory I’m “slow” academically. It takes me time to understand certain things. Banking, financial, mortgages, government, anything like that is very overwhelming for me and very confusing. I need it explained as if I am 3 years old. Book smarts and street smarts are not the same thing. She may take her rime or be distractible or trying to multitask too much. It’s not a measure of her intelligence but maybe an indication that she needs to focus and apply herself more on certain tasks. Or… she could be utilizing Weaponized incompetence.
My dad’s one of the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and smartest and hardworking men I’ve ever seen. Runs a business solo plus sales and constantly super involved in all his family and friends lives. It takes him ages to read a sentence. Sometimes it just happens like that My partner was way academically brighter than me and yet she can’t cook , like can’t boil an egg without messing it up level . YOU COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER; WHICH IS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGES….THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS THAT YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR SOULMATE AND GET ON WITH THE BUSINESS OF LOVING AND SUPPORTING EACH OTHER…ENJOY A LONG AND LOVING RELATIONSHIP ON YOUR JOURNEY……..MOM It doesn’t matter if you accomplish a basic task faster if you’re doing it incorrectly or substandard. I can vacuum the floor in 5 minutes and it might be passably clean, or I can spend 20 minutes and it might be immaculately clean. I can clean a cooking pot in 2 minutes or I can spend 10 minutes and make it look like it is fresh from the factory.
What you see as slow might just be your interpretation of methodical. So it really depends on the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and tasks you’re critiquing. Books smarts vs common sense/Street smarts. There is a tremendous difference, and you are witnessing that first hand. My wife is from rural upstate New York – she and her brother are sharp as hell and appear to have received a magnificent education Human brains are weird. The functions that are lost useful in academic success are only useful in a narrow subset of jobs, while other functions rarely tested for will prove vastly functional across a lifetime. I was a governor’s scholar, but I can barely remember how to navigate the roads in my own city. I forgot the directions to a street where I used to work for 6 years.. I’d be helpless without GPS, but thankfully for me, spacial processing isn’t tested for in school, so on paper I look very smart. He decided it would be a good idea to climb a ladder, in the rain, wearing sandals because he thought that the steam coming off my roof in the summer meant the house was on fire. He is physically uncoordinated by the way. School or intelligence smart and street smart are not the same. I know some very intelligent smart people who can’t hold a conversation about anything that they don’t have a degree in. I wonder how some of them survive in every day situations. one of my friends is a very very intelligent woman has degrees and god knows what other qualifications piling up high but honestly I think how has she got to where she is. There is no practical or common sense at all. She doesn’t know one end of a baby from the other, household appliances are a no go. She pays out all sorts of money for people to do everything for her because she is so dim! I don’t mean that bad as I tell her to her face and she knows I’m right. I wouldn’t say it’s because she’s sheltered or anything far from it. I think maybe she grew up with rich parents who were the same and never showed her any life skills.
My wife is a doctor (oncology). I am an engineer with a Masters (M.Eng). We BOTH work in Healthcare, but our “intelligence” is just geared differently. The things my wife suggest are just simple and profound, and often times i can’t believe i didn’t think of it first. There is a lot of wisdom in her words. And her words can have dual meaning. She comes across as wise and kind and responsible. People ask her for advice. I’m nothing like that. My words are sharp, pointy, and backed by SQL. They give me A, B, and C, and i’ll extrapolate to F+ with accuracy. I come off as a nutty wizard. I’m here to see the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and future with my crystal ball and Data Warehousing. People ask me to solve a problem. The other day, I built a 12/1 reduction gear out of a block of aluminum but couldn’t get the head light on an old van down enough to register for a single use need. Worked on it for an hour.
The truly fortunate and gifted are well rounded. Good enough at math to function. Often attributed to women, a high “emotional IQ” to be a decent human. And do normal tasks. Like not sit at green lites wondering what the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and pretty colors mean. snork My husband is very book smart, knows lots of things, it takes him at least 20 minutes to load the dishwasher after breakfast or lunch. Different people are faster at different things is part of it, part of it is just practice. Maybe she is completing tasks deliberately with meaningfulness and a high level of completeness and you’re flying around half assing it because you’re not bright enough to realize you’re fucking everything up. Those are different cognitive skills. You might excel at remembering stuff or thinking logically, but managing a household or making plans for a few days ahead requires different kinds of skills that are not “tested” or “practiced” in a lot of schools.
Intelligence usually becomes more specialized/narrow as you go up in IQ, savants & genius tend to be savants & genius’s in 1-2 specific areas, and are mediocre to incompetent in most everything else. Some people are good at rote learning/test taking, but are completely useless when it comes to practical knowledge. Intelligence doesn’t really equate to being fast at daily tasks. I’m rather smart if standardized tests are the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and measuring tool and I am a decently high-earning lawyer, but I was always a bit slow as a dishwasher/waiter/shelf stocker way back in the day. Lots of folks are commenting on the different types of intelligence and that’s definitely a part of it. But one thing that I’ve noticed having gone through the honors classes is that sometimes I feel like I did everything out of order? School always came super easy for me, I didn’t have to work at it, so I was put in the gifted classes. But I think the idea is that because you’re gifted in one area and you can hold a conversation with adults you’re more mature so they assume you know things like time management, social skills, and generally how to be a human being beyond your years, but that’s not always the case. I did really well in school but as an adult I’ve often found that I have to learn or relearn things that feel really basic. I’m not complaining, I enjoyed being in school and I had a great childhood, but there’s a lot of things I wish I had learned that I just didn’t.
Being smart in school is typically done by being good at remember information for tests/exams. Doesn’t really mean they were smart. People tell me I’m really really smart but you wouldn’t know if if you watched me trying to do chores or anything around the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and house. Executive dysfunction is a thing. I have a friend who was well on their way to being an accomplished musician (violin), had to leave that dream behind due to neck injury, and pivoted into medicine. Master’s, residency, all that jazz. Extremely smart person. Meanwhile, I played trumpet for fun in highschool – no aspirations of going pro or anything – and stopped education after my BA because I didn’t want to go into debt for more. (I had a scholarship for my BA.)
This absolutely brilliant person confessed to me one day that they were jealous of my ability to play music by-ear & improv accompaniment. Quite confused I asked them WTF they meant, they had played paid gigs with recognized bands. This friend revealed to me that with all of their musical accomplishments, they could only play by reading sheet music, or from memory when they’d repeated a piece enough times. This same friend also needed my help in reconnecting their sink plug to the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 Western Conference Finals Wolves back logo shirt and by the same token and release plunger, because they had tried for half an hour and couldn’t get it to work right. They kept trying to attach it in the fully “down” position, locking it into a permanent “plugged” position. They were fucking astounded when I fixed it in under 30 seconds without even sticking my head under the sink, going by touch-of-hand.
