This of course is barring any exceptions, such as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse (which could be mandatory reporting dependant on state/province/country laws). They can offer facilitating an amicable split / navigating through separation, or divorce, if that’s something either partner is considering, but they are not meant to actively push for it. If the Merry Elfin Christmas Festive Holiday shirt in other words I will buy this therapist outright pushed a couple to break up (without it being framed as a choice for them), it could be considered unethical and perceived as abuse of their position in the therapeutic relationship. Good therapists do not try to retain patients. They want them to get better, gain the tools they need to manage or resolve their issues, and move on. As a saying goes in the industry “I’m sad to see you go, but I hope to never see you again.” (Meaning the therapist hopes the individual/ couple will be enabled and never require their level of help/ intervention in the future.)

Lastly, just because a couple may break up does not mean the Merry Elfin Christmas Festive Holiday shirt in other words I will buy this individuals may not see the therapist separately. The patients may continue to see them for individual sessions moving forward to navigate what comes next, work on themselves, or even be seen as a preventative measure for their next relationship. TLDR: a good therapist would work with the couple on what they want, including on breaking up if need be, but doesn’t outright tell a couple that they should. They can suggest it, but ultimately the treatment plan is determined by the couple’s goals. And no therapist worth their degree / license actively tries to retain patients by not helping them. My family is full of therapists and based on their anecdotal experiences, at least 50% of couples work is helping people break up. A couples therapist I went to with an ex had a scheduling policy- potential new clients had 3 sessions before she agreed to take them on officially. At the end of our 3rd session, she suggested we take some time to think about whether we should be together at all, and declined to see us any further. Man I wish I had listened to her, lol. But I got out eventually.
