It might have changed now, but I remember when the Meredith I’m freaking out shirt in other words I will buy this rule used to be housing should be about 33% of your income. I say that’s too much and go cheaper, 20-25%. I realize that many don’t have that luxury and there isn’t anything livable in their area at that price. If that’s you and you have a reasonably marketable skill set, move to a place where it is. For some people that don’t have that luxury, I got nothing. They need to develop a skill set, or find a job that doesn’t require one but pays decently. It’s going to suck. That’s what I did, I found a job that payed ok, in a shit area, working long hours (up to 135+ hours a week sometimes) but was able to use that job as a springboard to something better. I’m still stuck in a shit area however, but at least cost of living isn’t too ridiculous, and I’m usually only working 45-50 hours a week, sometimes up to 85 but that’s only once or twice a year.

Ya wages don’t match the Meredith I’m freaking out shirt in other words I will buy this price of shit but that how they get ya. They don’t care about us. There’s barely laws being pushed to fix this. The wage gap and min fed wage sucks and has only been talked about. There’s little wins here and there. Anyway I’m sacrificing my health to make ends meet in hopes of something better. It sucks. This always gets downvoted but my wife and I worked the Dave Ramsey baby steps 10 years ago when we first got married. Now we have no debt, own our 5 bedroom home with no mortgage and make $200k combined (only $80k combined when we got married) plus we’ve started buying rental homes. Finances were tight, for many years but now we could retire in our late 40’s or early 50’s. I know things are tough for people but we both come from middle class families, worked hard, made solid financial decisions. It’s served us well. No savings. Roommates. Extra layers of clothing and heated blankets in the winter . Eat cheap foods like rice and beans a lot. No soda .
