Current dilemma rn. My start date at company 1 may begin soon but I’m still interviewing at company 2. Company 2 pays $6 more but their interview schedule times will eventually overlap company 1 work schedule. Playing with fire just to get a bigger pay increase and risking jeopardizing my employment with company 1 You have a “medical appointment” and need to excuse yourself for a couple of hours. Say youll work later that day or week to make up for lost time Which job is going to give you overall satisfaction? There needs to be your starting point in making your decision. It’s worth the Mentally Dating Matt Rife shirt moreover I will buy this wait. Here’s how I would play it. Since company 1, the offer company, gave you time to think it over just use the time to wait. Don’t worry about the recruiter’s pressure, it’s their job to get you signed.

At the Mentally Dating Matt Rife shirt moreover I will buy this same time tell company 2 you have an offer on the table and you must decide within couple days and politely ask them to accelerate their process. If company 2 offers, or even if they don’t, you can check with company 1 to see if they will match company 2’s offer by telling company 1 you have a higher offer but you prefer company 1 and would love it if they can match the compensation too. That way even if company 1 refuse to match you can still have the out of saying you chose them in the end because of the work and culture. Take Job 1 and if Job 2 comes through, resign and move on to the second one. If not, at least Job 1 is a steady paycheck until you get another higher-paying job. There’s a lot of comments saying to tell the higher paying job you need to hear an answer back soon because of your other offer – DO NOT DO THAT! It gives off the impression that you are bouncing between jobs (or sometimes they just honestly can’t speed up the process due to HR reasons) which won’t necessarily knock you out of the running but it would definitely put you under someone of equal credentials and from my experiencing hiring (engineering positions for people coming out of college) there’s usually a lot of applicants that seem pretty equal. I would HIGHLY recommend just taking the first job and then, if the second accepts you, inform the first job that you will be leaving for the second job unless they can match the salary. They likely won’t match the offer in which case you quit and take the second job. First job might get angry but who cares – they could have fixed the problem for $7k increase and new hires don’t work out all the time… they will be fine.
