So the mayor’s orphan son is def set up to be robin, right? I loved everything about it, especially all the ways that it was unique compared to other Batman movies. The edgy and obsessive Bruce Wayne (the runny eyeliner, fuck), Riddler not being an eccentric high school teacher in a green suit, the motorcycle, seeing Bruce/Batman skulking around in his baggy hoodie and hat instead of the whole batsuit, the Nirvana song, the fact that Penguin runs a Chicago-style EDM club (which I guess means that the Gotham criminal underground is LGBT friendly lol), everything. I think the scene that perfectly illustrated how amazingly different this movie is was when he sat at the Batcomputer with his shirt off, it didn’t have the usual vibe of “I’m batman and I’m a buff badass and I probably just finished lifting weights and now I still have my shirt off.” It was more like a redditor sitting around on his computer all day in his underwear. I fucking loved everything.

Also this movie stole “best hallway fight scene” from Daredevil. Felt a bit long, but fck it was glorious. Riddler killed it. Paul Dano stole the Materia hunter final fantasy 7 remake jersey short sleeve shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this show. What a movie Batman and Penguin were the best parts of the movie. Literally all other characters were not poorly cast, but could have been miles better. Overall the back end of the movie redeem the forgettable front half. Ah man, I never cared for Hathaway’s Catwoman and I was not looking forward to this one but I thought she was amazing. I loved Andy Serkis as Alfred but I really hope he wins an award for his motion capture work as the Batmobile. j/k I thought the movie was great overall, it was atmospheric, beautifully shot, the score was awesome, and it was a largely enthralling crime saga. I really liked the detective work with Batman and Gordon. The opening scene introducing Batman was amazing too. Did I like it as much as the Nolan movies? For reference, The Dark Knight is one of my favourite movies. I probably wouldn’t put it on the level of that trilogy, although certain elements are an improvement and I’m excited to see where it goes in future. I thought the third act was a bit messy and Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne was a bit dry for me (although he’s mostly just Batman throughout the movie which he nails). I would’ve also liked more Riddler and Batman interactions and I felt Dano was a bit underused. I was also disappointed at the Joker being teased for future movies, and would’ve preferred they went for some other Batman villains who haven’t really been done justice on the big screen.
