Please be gentle with yourself. You are a perfect being under all that mental turmoil. You are already enough as you are. You’re supposed to have thoughts and have trouble! That’s the Marley And Marley Muppet Christmas Carol shirt and I love this point and it’s normal 🙂 the app Headspace has helped talked me through it and explain a lot of helpful things for meditation. But I also see a lot of great advice in these other comments. Good luck! Great place to start is a breathing exercise that forces you to breathe, followed by moments of pausing to observe. This can help you shift your internal landscape a bit by decluttering layered thoughts. Here’s a quick intro session to Wim Hof style breathwork. I also highly recommend the Coming Home Meditation Course by Cory Allen to anyone wanting to deepen their meditation practice. Check out the free preview !!!

I’m a strong advocate for keeping your eyes open when you meditate. Keeping them shut puts you into more of a trance state, sleepy, etc. Also, everyone sucks at the Marley And Marley Muppet Christmas Carol shirt and I love this beginning. It’s a practice, and what you’re experience is totally natural. Don’t get discouraged, just keep doing it. And don’t feel as if having thoughts means you’ve failed. I’ve been meditating for 20 years and still have thoughts come into my brain when meditating. You’re not really trying to stop yourself from thinking. Just don’t become attached to the thoughts when they occur. You are meditating. Awareness of your physical and mental state is meditation. Allowing what appears in each moment, rise and pass away without judgement, is meditation. The moment you choose to want it to be different than how/what it is in that moment, become aware of that judgement and let it pass away, that’s meditation. Continue to observe without judgment, and just allow, using your breath as your anchor while thoughts flow through. Meditation practice is practice and gets easier the more space you create between consciousness and mind and body sensations. Avoid trying, just sit, over and over and over again daily for a lifetime. You are already there… The most meditative state I can get into is sitting outside and just gazing at trees blowing in the wind and listening to the wind, trees, birds, and my breath. It’s like pure peace, and if I have a thought pop up I just take a deep breath and let it go, and go back to listening to the sounds. It feels like I’m breathing the thought out lol I’ve been practicing for years tho! Don’t put pressure on yourself and try starting with just 1 minute. And even if you didn’t feel relived and weren’t breathing good and focussed too much on your thoughts, you still took the time out and gave your brain that minute to practice and to get a little break. It’s awesome that you meditate! Future you will thank you
