When you look at the Maldita Vecindad Band Rock Mexican T-Shirt and by the same token and actual poll numbers and drill down, what most Americans favor is some loan forgiveness for the ‘needy’ (most don’t define what needy is). Basically why Joe Biden said 10k for the under 150k. He hit the poll numbers exactly right. Exactly this, I am for free or interest free higher education technical, vocational, or professional. I am not for giving blanket checks to everyone in college educated people and then have the next class of student in this same problem. Fix the underlying problem first if they need a quick solution make interest rate near zero and allow students bankruptcy. Giving only student loan forgiveness is the biggest fuck you to the people that chose to not go to college by using a regressive tax on everyone that benefits only the higher earners.

There’s no political support for this. If democrats and Biden push it through I can promise you they’ll get hammered in the Maldita Vecindad Band Rock Mexican T-Shirt and by the same token and midterms. Possibly hammered for a lot longer than midterms. This could separate blue collar workers from the Democratic Party for decades. College educated degree holders are the least needy people in the US who need financial aid. We should be giving this money to the people who actually need it. Paid off mine early in 2021 and I support loan forgiveness. I don’t need to benefit to know it’s the right thing to do. The right thing to do would be to allow the loans to be discharged through bankruptcy, put limits in place to stop tuition cost increases, and to put the money to use to subsidize community and state schools. That way people who need relief can get it. People who took out excessive loans aren’t rewarded for gaming the system. Costs for students can be reduced in the future. The taxpayer doesn’t get fucked. And our shithead politicians don’t make the current inflation problem worse. The right thing to do would be to address the costs of higher education in the first place. Instead, this will do the opposite. Knowing the government will pay the loans people will borrow even more. The influx of cash will raise education costs even higher. In 10 years we’ll have the same problem again, but worse.
