At my current job that pays 2x yhe amount it’s literally just “eh show up whenever, do 8 hr, get your stuff done” It’s easy to identify and identify your triggers and compulsions, it’s just really about if you’re in a position where you can get people to work around them or be forced into “everyone else can do it this way why cant you?” Most disabilities and struggles are pretty easy to work around, even with incredibly extreme ones, but asking for minor aid can be seen as just too much and offebsive to abled people. Like people act like i ask the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this most impossible things when i ask for written instructions and make them take an extra 10 seconds to do so. Literally theyll rant and rave every time fir longer than it takes to write a list and act like somehow it is a slight on them
Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt: Embrace Your Uniqueness
It could be “every time you hear a family member’s name, you tap your fingers into your palm twice” This would only be a serious problem if you had a job that required constant engagement with both hands. Or it could be “never wear shoes while standing under something blue” – which would mean that you literally could not go outside on a clear day unless you had shoes on, plus you’d not have the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this ability to enter some buildings, since many signs and some ceilings are blue. The first one is a quirk, almost just a personality feature. The second one will stop you from keeping any daytime job. Agreed. Depending on the level of OCD (and other factors), sufferers can function with it or be completely over run but it.
Also OP you noted that he isn’t going to therapy or taking meds. Often times mental illness, and particularly OCD, are an ebb and flow. Some minutes are good and some are bad. It can be a dark dark road. Perhaps he will pick up treatment again soon. Therapy for OCD is HARD and SCARY and often you have to do (overcome) things your mind has convinced you will have fatal consequences to the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this people you love. And then you have to get up everyday and have this battle every single second. You see a person out the outside, but on the inside there may be a screaming and tortured human. As for playing videos games and doing other things but being unable to hold a job this isn’t uncommon. Sufferers can do some things perfectly well and cannot do others for reasons that appear completely irrational to you (and themselves). This is OCD. It’s horrible. Perhaps start with not writing OCD in quotations and calling your cousin a loser. We’re all out here doing the best we can and that’s just not helpful
How I can buy this Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt
Yes yes yes. I’ve just finished a bout of exposure therapy for my OCD. I got so stressed during the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this sessions that I vomited. When I say finished, I mean ‘reached my limit of how much I can take’ because it was so awful. It’s not as simple as just getting therapy. I do wonder if the cousin has really been helped by his family. It sounds like he basically just gave up and decided that being self sufficient was too hard in his early 20’s. Since then his family has supported his lifestyle for, like 15 years or so. If there was any chance of the cousin struggling but supporting himself, that time has passed. I don’t have nearly the struggles as the OP, but I would be completely useless if I did nothing but play computer games for 15 years.
Also, medications can really fuck with you. It’s easy to look from the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this outside and think someone should just take meds, but a lot of times some people really have severe side effects (either physical on top of their existing mental issues, or new mental issues they’re not used to coping with). I tried antidepressants and literally every single one made it so I physically couldn’t leave the house even if I wanted to. I threw in the towel and decided I couldn’t put my body through this. They say if you push through the side effects can get better, but you’re often talking really long time spans and you don’t know if it’ll be worth it at the end. I mean her cousin’s definitely a loser by all societal definitions, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have OCD or a very good reason behind why they are the way they are.Why did you take this job? “Well, it opens a lot of doors”
Best answer ever. OCD can shut a person down totally and is crazy hard to ‘fix’ in therapy. There are a lot of people who could get stuck all day on that one door that would take 20 times for the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this CEO in your example. Yes, and the use of “OCD” in quotes is extremely offensive to those who have severe OCD. OCD is not a joke or a term that should be thrown around as a synonym for quirky or clean or what have you. I’m just tagging onto this comment to say that there are many, many different types of OCD and some don’t have external compulsions that are visible. If you find anything affecting your daily life in a negative way or causing you distress, please speak with a professional. You’re not broken, there are just differences in neurotransmitter expression in your brain and pathways that are reinforced by your thinking. There is no magical cure, but medicine and therapy can help you develop coping skills that improve your life significantly. You are worth it and you are not alone. Will totally depend on the level of OCD. If you have to open and close it it 15 times every time you open a door and you’re the ceo of a big company it probably is. It’s probably also a bit embarrassing
However, I have never seen a human who is more dominated by “compulsions” than they are dominated by “food and water”. Working is called “Earning a living” – because you must earn your right to continue living by exerting effort and providing value to the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this marketplace. However, some people skirt the system by getting others to “earn” their living for them. This is fine in the context of business if someone is compensated for their time/labor. However (excluding children) a “Mooch” is someone who expects to be taken care of, without providing any value in return (unacceptable for grown men) Sure but the thing is that you actually have to eat food and water, and everybody in society knows that, nobody gets judged because they have to have dinner or a glass of water and our lifestyles make allowances for it. However, I have never seen a human who is more dominated by “compulsions” than they are dominated by “food and water”.
This seems like survivorship bias. You only see people who overcome their compulsions because those who couldn’t have either starved or killed themselves. off topic i’m sorry but “you must earn your right to keep living” is such a buckwild take, are human rights not a thing to you? goddamnMy biggest issues with OP’s cousin, who: I get that OCD is crippling, but the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this moment someone says “therapy doesn’t work for me”, then they should be out in the world taking care of themselves and not mooching. At this point, he’s manipulating everyone in his life to take care of him, because he refused to take care of himself. Plenty of people are able to manage their OCD and be apart of the community, but this guy is just being lazy.
Therapy literally doesn’t work for everyone. There is no therapy that has a 100% success rate. Some are just over half. Regardless of how severe your OCD is, the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this critical part of OP’s post is that he’s gone without treatment for at least 15 years. I would 100% never judge a person with mental health struggles being underemployed or struggling to keep a job because I could absolutely see myself being in that position myself. Even if they’re seeking help and it just isn’t enough to make them functional in a professional environment, at least they’re trying to get help and develop skills to function more effectively. No matter how sick you are though, if you refuse to seek treatment, you forfeit sympathy for your struggles, in my book u/iluvbmth when computer screens, smartphone screens, tv screens, tablet screens & other electronics or electric appliances were removed from his use does he still have OCD?
Not everyone can handle technology to become productive members of society much less actually behave like their age? At 38yo shouldn’t he started working, even part time, 2 decades ago? Started full time work 18 years ago? Be married and have children at least a dozen years ago? If anyone finds those ages too “young” compare him to what ages his parents, grand parents, uncles & aunties had those key life events? Their personal lives often need structure, frameworks and boundaries to progress in life to an actual grown up. It does not help that he does not eat clean each meal, not physical active daily, or not regularly sleep earlier earlier and longer. When anyone suggested the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this above environmental changes of the “OCD” sufferer they will speak up about some ultra niche ailment that is suffered by less than 1 of 1,000,000 individuals worldwide & not in their town/city/state. Because of how damaging that form of “OCD” is countries like Korea, China and Vietnam imposed restrictions of recreational screen time relating to video games, computer games and other screen time activities. at what point though do people admit that they’re just choosing to do that? they don’t actually have to. their bodies are not involuntarily making that movement. they know it’s not normal, and they know it’s not a spastic involuntary movement.
That explains almost all human behaviour away. Heroin addicts choose to keep taking heroin, serial killers choose to kill people etc etc What you’re saying is kind of like saying that if you were alone in the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this woods and saw a grizzly bear near you, that you are choosing to be terrified. Let’s face it – I know blind people who have jobs. If this guy can play video games and invest crypto, then there’s a million jobs he can do. No excuses here. People need to stop enabling his behavior. I mean someone is enabling him. That has to stop. He also has to want to get help. He has to see how it is something desirable, to be independent. There are plenty of people without mental illness who would take advantage of others for a life of leisure and a free ride. Hopefully he turns things around before the change is forced on him when he’s not ready. Should be using that time now to do so. This. I was housebound for a few years after serious illness. I loved video games so they helped me keep going, but it gets depressing. They’re SO much better now I can go out and come back to a game Last time I was that hooked on a game was last year when I got into Dyson Sphere Program, I hate playing knowing I have to go in x-minutes but I also love being that into a game
Agreed. I’ve been pretty much disabled for 2.5 years, can’t find a job because of it, and I play video games to pass the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this time but it’s depressing as Hell. Literally my situation for 8 years. I was so lucky with a new medication. 18months outof house now. Im so sorry you’re going through it as well I was a stay at home mom, went back to school, FINALLY got a job, and totally messed up my back after 3 months (didn’t work long enough to qualify for disability either). Had to quit my job because I can’t stand long anymore, and now nobody’s hiring me – not enough experience and none in sit down jobs. Didn’t get to finish my degree either (culinary arts – same reason). Some days I just want to cry, nobody has figured out why my back is so painful yet (got a spinal fusion too…).
My work stops for two months every winter, and that first month is pure joy. Second month gets boring. By the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this time I’m going back to work it’s an exciting break from the monotony of gaming all day I’ve got long covid. After being bed bound for 1.5 years and in extreme, extreme pain, i can finally game again. Thank fucking god, because without that life raft, i just don’t know. It truly is a wonderful tool for getting through the day. And after you lose everything, health included, that’s all you have left. Getting through the day. Unemployment during the first wave of Covid pretty much ruined video games subconsciously for me. On the surface I think I love playing them, but after a year or so of playing them out of almost necessity to pass time, I feel like they’re a chore now and have lost their charm.
It’s exactly what it feels like yes. I tried to make it a bit more by becoming a freelance games tester and streamed a bit just to have social interaction. I also painted and wrote to keep myself occupied. But none of it compares to the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this freedom of being able to go out. Gaming became both my saviour and my trap if that makes sense? Now, I just try to moderate. Gaming is and always will be a passion of mine but I think any activity is brutal and depressing if you have no other choice and no freedom And that is while you know that you’re doing all you can to get better and will eventually get better. Someone in OP’s cousin’s situation could physically get out of the house and get a job, so it probably feels much more depressing if you can’t manage to do that. I didn’t know, unfortunately. I was told I would be lucky to make it to 30. When I was 27 a new med they tried worked wonders and I’m now 32 and have been non housebound for about 18 months now. It was nearing 8 years before
Hell when I was out of work for 2 months a few years ago, before covid, gaming and applying for jobs was basically what I did from 7 until 5 when wife came home I third this. I did that from 2021-2023 and…God it sucked. I was struggling with mental health issues so I couldn’t leave the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this house, and then couldn’t afford therapy because gas prices skyrocketed (Thanks Ukraine War /s) . After the first month, videogames went from being fun and awesome to being depressing and soulnumbing. I’ve finally managed to get out of the house since January and actually do IRL things. It makes me appreciate video games a lot more now that I can’t do them 24/7 I love video games. I’ve been out of a job for 2 weeks now and I get a crushing guilt with a side of shame every time I load up a game.
Had a buddy out of work with a back injury for almost a full year, he was absolutely miserable. I can go a day or two if doing nothing before I go stir crazy Generally true of any type of coasting. I thought my hobbies would give me fulfillment, and for a time they did, but mostly I just got lazier and lazier, slowly deteriorating. That’s what I’ve heard, and why a lot of people just keep working instead of retiring because it helps pass the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this time and keeps them somewhat sharp I flunked out of uni and was unemployed for a while, felt like shit, fell back into gaming and sunk a lot of time into ESO. Looking back I can see my mindstate was fucked and just needed an escape. I was gaming for a 6 hours once and I felt sick. I really can’t explain it but I know it fries your dopamine centers. This is spot on. I suffer from multiple mental and physical health issues, so I don’t work. Everyone thinks it’s so amazing that I can play video games all day if I want to, when in reality I’m lonely and miserable, and just running down the clock until I die alone. I play games to pass the time and keep my mind busy so I don’t start thinking about how much my life sucks, but it’s very hard to enjoy anything when you’re suffering from clinical depression. Most days I sleep 10-12 hours because it’s easier than being awake. At this point it may be worth getting disability support and exploring something he could do while gaming, like streaming on twitch/youtube, or recording gameplays and game reviews. This would allow him to possibly have a bit more income (albeit probably not enough to earn a living), while socializing with more people, something that he probably needs and may help him get out of this hole. How about doing something like a post letter carrier. I mean there’s some interaction required but mainly its a solitary and I’d say healthy form of work. Or reading Gas meters.
For other jobs it depends on what his OCD triggers are… youtuber/streamer would be a safer choice as it is done from home in a situation he is already used to, but if he could do other jobs that get him out of the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this house it could indeed be better for him. I’m 45 and in the same cycle. Been denied disability 3 or 4 times in the last 20yrs. I guess ppl think I have faked my invisible illness for 30+ years. It’s like stuck in a dissasociative state, so the crushing weight of a reality we can’t control nor participate in doesn’t feel so heavy. If that makes sense. You are only allowed to make something like 10k a year on disability or else they can and will cut you off of it. It’s actually a bit of a shitty trap if you were on disability and slowly slowly start being able to work I’m lucky for a strong support system and I’m planning on getting into streaming to help ease myself into social interactions with strangers. Otherwise, it feels like I’m an extrovert trapped within an introverts body and rules of engagement. I love talking and chatting even over dumb stuff! But the anxiety is crushing.
It’s enjoyable when it’s used as a break, when you are living a fulfilling life but still love your RPGs to relax and unwind. It is not enjoyable what it’s all you do day in and day out to hide from the Make Easter Great Again American Flag Trump Bunny Ears Eggs Hunting T-Shirt But I will love this mental anguish you experience, then it just becomes a mask for a deeper problem your not willing to face. Honestly he needs to get back into therapy and treatment, this is probably not just OCD. This is how people behave with severe depression. He needs to be properly assessed and diagnosed. Covid lockdown weirdly put me off it for a while after as it was one of the only things I could do in my free time and almost became another chore. Just doing five days of movies and video games while infected with a mild case of Covid was mind numbing enough. My health rapidly improved so I was at the time only required to quarantine for five days… I thought I could easily handle it, what with the cold completely disappearing after two days (yay vaccines), but by day 5 I was DESPERATE to get out of the house!
