Also, try finding a decent restaurant open late in the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and US. They all close at 9pm or so, everyone eats super early there. However you are right, NYC is about twice as dense as London. Moreso than the density though, it’s the fact that many buildings in NYC are mixed commercial/residential. Whereas even in zone 2 of London you’ll find places where you can walk for 5-10 minutes and encounter only a handful of shops and those shops will likely close much earlier than NYC. Came here to say this. In London I bought a 1 bed flat in zone 1 in 2014 (and I didn’t even work in banking) and when my fellow American friends who had lived in NYC but had moved to London (and been there 10 years) came over to visit, we all remarked that in NYC there is no way in hell that I would have been able to afford a flat that was so central. Maybe part of it is the social stigma of being a council flat. I don’t know. Yeah east village is different to west village which is different to Hell’s Kitchen which is different to TriBeCa and .. well I could go on but you get the idea!

I’d say weather is better year round. More daylight hours in the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and winter, and the sun actually comes out in winter too. NYC – denser so a more busy, hectic feel, bars and food spots open later, better pizza, not great underground, sky high rent, expensive in the city centre, pain to drive in, thriving theatre scene. London – more spread out, bars & restaurants close earlier, better underground, high rent, expensive in the city centre, pain to drive in, thriving theatre scene. Much older, more historical tidbits. Also everything in NYC is open later. Not just bars, everything. I remember needing tights before a night out in NY and I could head to a shop (admittedly midtown) at 1130/midnight to pick some up. When I went out in London around Christmas time the late trains had stopped after midnight. Makes a huge difference to the energy.
Lots of Londoners have a village mentality. Resistant to changes and hostile to any development around them – this is what’s making zone 1 properties more expensive (relatively speaking) than they need to be. Lots more Londoners would be able to afford living in Zone 1 if the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and very restrictive planning rules were removed, and it would make London and other British cities richer, more dynamic places to live. The planning system was made when Britain was the richest country on earth. It is now strangling development while towns decay and the country keeps getting poorer. It doesn’t work and needs to be abolished. And that can happen because while NYC is similarly as expensive as London, the salaries actually keep up with that instead of being dogshit

Where to buy this MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt

Makes a difference from the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and 115th “Why is London so expensive…????” and the “Why can’t I meet anyone…?” questions. London has far more history and the tube network is a lot more polished visually that the NYC subways (but they both have their pros and cons) I did like that the NYC subway has regular fast trains that only stop every third stop or so. It would be a nice feature for the Tube to have, but I guess it would be impossible with the existing tracks. Significantly more escalators on the tube – hauling yourself up 3 flights of stairs every stop on the subway did get a bit old New yorker who visited london this past summer- your stations are soooo much nicer than subway stations, also the signs with all the stops on the line written out make things so clear, NYC could definitely do with some of that. but the tube not running 24/7 was definitely a shock to me NYC never sleeps. London everything starts shutting down in the late evening – transport, restaurants, shops, even convenience stores. It’s not a true 24 hour city in the same sense. I’m usually in bed by 10pm now so don’t really mind but some people will value that. NYC is amazing. I love the history. The architecture. All the sights and sounds. The famous landmarks. The buzz of the city. I think New York is a newer city and isn’t split into different areas by different strata’s of wealth whereas in London owning a home is almost exclusively linked to wealth I.e people in their 20’s buying a home are almost always given support from family.
It’s also possibly more affordable or at least easier to spend a smaller proportion of your income on rent? Having lived in London and visited New York, I would probably prefer New York. It has more of a buzz about it and isn’t so rigid and closed off to new comers. I could afford zone 1 these days, but it’s no longer as appealing as it used to be. Fortunately I got that “zone 1” style experience in a European city in my 30s, and it was certainly great to have that, but you grow out of it for sure As a professional couple King Cross is not bad and is zone 1, nor is Aldgate or around Clerkenwell though they are further out. It would be very easy to find something their for cheaper than some on the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and more desirable Zone 2 areas. I live in Marylebone at the moment, to be honest I am enjoying it very much. Also walking to Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus is kind of neat.
Oxford Street is your normal high street but on steroids, so you can find anything you need, and Piccadilly Circus is just a way of saying you can go to the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and surrounding areas such Soho for drinks, food, diverse asian grocery shops, comic books, cinema, museums, culture, etc, etc. all on foot. I dont think you fully explained what lead to the conclusion after “As a result”, both cities have Zone 1, then what? Found London to be more internationally sophisticated and cosmopolitan, it’s reflected in the City’s spirit and infrastructure. NYC while grandiose in a number of aspects, is quite isolated with its own cultural tastes, not as internationally settled compared to London. The wide range of international cuisine is also where London excels, in terms of price, quality and abundance. I got the impression that NYC is too bureaucratic, broken mass transit although it works, seems like a half-assed city in many ways because as soon as you’re out of Manhattan it’s like you’re in the wastelands. In terms of pay and opportunity, NYC beats London. Clearly you don’t know anything about New York to say we have no international food offerings LOL. We have whole neighborhoods of immigrants with any food you can imagine you just don’t know them and that’s alright
Never said that, I said that London has comparatively more to offer in terms of international cuisine. Those small immigrant neighborhoods in New York with their rather narrow-scaled food offerings is nothing compared to what you’ll get in London. Actually the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and main difference is the geographical location. And currency. And that one is in Britain and the other is the US. And one is called New York and the other is called London. And that one does really shite pizza and the other doesn’t. And that one is on one side of the Atlantic and the other is on a river flowing into the North Sea. And that one is thousands of years old and the other is wee toddler. Afford is a funny word. You can afford living somewhere and have <£1,000 savings at the end of each month. To me, in my thirties, that’s not good enough. If you were, NYC would be more affordable than London, as UK tech salaries are generally terrible compared to US tech salaries. (Source: Have worked in both places. The only way to get US tech salaries in the UK is to work in quant finance, which is insanely competitive.)
Idk why people find this question so intrusive. I have very high curiosity on what people do for a living when they tell their stories of living at a certain places or regions. Its inspiring and there is no malice at all. I upvoted you bro no worries. Zone 2 is so variable – Shadwell in Zone 2 and it is hardly expensive. I would personally not want to move out of Zone 2 as why live in London at that point? Flat share at 60k? why on earth would you do that? I only flat shared during the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt and by the same token and pandemic because I’ve been stuck there when it happened, but fuck if I’ll EVER flat share again. It’s appalling, revolting, that it became almost the norm in London. 60k is decent for London, but you won’t be able to save as much if let’s say you want to get your own place one day.
I also have the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this unique position of paying for a mortgage back in my home country and paying rent here, so I get double shafted. I’ll soon have a mortgage to pay as well in another country. But depending on the country, it’s entirely possible to NOT flatshare, even with a mortgage on a 60k salary. Besides, you also have the option to rent your property in your country, if you have no family living there of course. We found that, generally, Manhattan felt less crowded than central London. Sure, Times Square is packed, but everywhere outside that seemed immediately quieter in comparison. My mates lived in lower east side and they were pretty average. Shared a small flat. Wages are crazy high there. The exact same role at my company in NYC pays 2.5x what I make in London, but rent is only 20% higher in NYC. As others are saying, I feel like the affordability gap alone leads to a lot of differences. Rent and areas are just a small part of a city’s character though imo. A post from the other day pointed out how they find NYC to be an easier place to socialise, create new friendships. I never been lived there but I envy that culture already In London, the city doesn’t overwhelm you. You can always escape to a park or quiet area just one street over from the noise if you want, and go find bustle if you crave it. The excitement of NYC is that you’re always in amongst a hive of activity
The real difference between both is people who live in NYC will never miss the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this chance to tell you, your mates, their gerbils: they live in NYC. As far as I can see NYC is more cliquey. Harder to get into social circles and more exclusive, whereas London is very inclusive and embracing of different cultures, and societal classes. London is more raw in my opinion. I have lived in London for almost 2 decades. Visited New York a couple of times. First time for pleasure, second time for work. Only thing that’s better in New York is that they have a beach. Manhattan was a shithole full of crazy people, everywhere stank of weed and the place was just dull. The “Italian” food was far removed from proper Italian food, and just muck soaked in cheese, the parks were rubbish other than Central Park, there were so many skyscrapers that the Empire State building was a massive disappointment. I found it exhilarating the same way I find a walk around Lewisham after dark exhilarating. NY metro was a pain to try and work out and you have much less helpful signs ANYWHERE, even in stations. London tube is far easier. Other than that I agree.
Went to NYC last summer. Loved it. Probably one of the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this few cities I would relocate to in a heartbeat if offered a job there. My job role pays a whopping 10x more in NYC than it does in London. Sadly very hard to break into due to mafia like unions and nepotism in the states. Not domestic but for theatre, movies and concerts. So sad seeing the rates for a show I did in the west end transfer to Broadway knowing what the union crew get there.New York is way too pretentious. London is very down to earth with “normal” people. Ah, fair play. Is it actually called Dumbo on the map? I think I’ve heard it mentioned in media before but always assumed it was something like Dunbow. Because calling something Dumbo seems silly to my ear.
I really like the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this Village in NYC (around Jane St etc). I could walk anywhere on my trips there. Always stayed in the same apartment and it felt like Sex&The City. Since Covid started, I’ve only been there once. Friends live in Hoboken and Weboken, rent like 3500 a month was a steal (1-bed in Weboken, on a 50% discount during Covid). The minute Covid was over, they increased rent by 20% from full price but obviously they could afford it so they stayed. The thing is, everyone I know doesn’t really hang out in Central Manhattan – too much risk of being exposed to crime or other horrible things. It’s different when you’re in finance and live in your own bubble on Upper East Side, or were born into money and enjoy yourself near Riverside Park. That’s a different bubble. To me NYC in a bit tiring and a bit too much. I’d prefer San Francisco in that regard. But knowing how the US has changed during Covid, I don’t want to live there at all (and I can move there, like, tomorrow and be all set from day 1 due to part of my family being there)
All salient points but you forgot the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this most important pro: London has better Pizza than New York. We have actual Italians making Italian pizza in London. Why else would Stanley Tucci live in London and not New York? I haven’t lived in either place, but I’ve been to NYC on a vacation and London on a graduation trip. NYC gives me MAJOR anxiety. In London I felt peaceful (and I stayed in Zone 1). I don’t know, but I think I felt safer in London than I did in NYC. I wasn’t worried at all about having gone shopping and walking around with lots of bags in London. In NYC it felt so much more crowded and I felt like I needed to hold my bag close (which is crazy because I’ve never felt that about anywhere I’ve traveled to). When I was in London, the people I came across either left you alone or were super nice. In NYC a man came up behind me yelling F*CK YOU like 3 times (my mom was about to go Mama Bear on him. Lol) and I thought I was going to die in the cab or two I took. London was also cleaner. I do love the theatre and musicals so I would love to see more on Broadway, but I dread having to go to NYC to do that. So if you, having lived there, or anyone, has any lovely thoughts or tips on NYC I’d love to hear them.
I’ll just say that knowing both cities well, I felt much safer in Manhattan than central london. Part of this was that there were more people around at any time of the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this day. Manhattan pre-Covid also had an excellent safety record (I think London may have over taken it in terms of crime rate before Covid , but I need to fact check that) . As for friendliness, New Yorkers are busy and dislike clueless tourists that just pay no attention to others trying to get past them on the pavement. London is the same tbh. New Yorkers are pretty friendly and chatty , though who knows perhaps that’s because I had an English accent. I also found Londoners to walk faster than New Yorkers. New Yorkers seemed pretty slow in comparison to my London march perfected through years of navigating London Bridge at rush hour. As for tranquility… Manhattan gets calmer the closer you get to the water. So I suggested starting off near the Staten Island ferry port and walking westwards up the edge of Manhattan. Pretty relaxed there. Then you have Central Park but you need you start off or walk to the mid point to shake off all the tourists.
Good observation, sherlock. So basically, you’re telling us that london is more stretched out? Maybe that has something to do with the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this fact that they have roughly the same population, but london is twice the size. I think I’d say the main difference is size. London is huge, but New York is enormous. London’s urban area is around 10 million people, New York’s is around 20 million. I don’t think comparing London travel zones to areas of New York is that insightful, because the geographies of the two cities are so different. OP is not talking about the state of New York, they are referring to NYC. Comparing city to city. Populations are not far off, London: 9.5 million vs. New York’s 8.1 million. Geographically London is twice the size of New York City.
Having lived in both cities for many years I agree that it’s the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this condensed living that really gave my time in NYC it’s 24/7 buzz. Neither am I. The urban area of NYC is what I’m taking about, which isn’t fully contained within New York state. The US census lists its population as 19,426,449. Measuring the population of cities only by their officially designated boundaries isn’t good for comparisons. The classic example being that if we do that, Paris is only 2 million people. You’re tryna compare the entire tri-state area to London? Yeahhh I can tell you no one is talking about Long Island when they say the city. ‘They’ being the US Census Bureau. Comparing urban areas is the only consistent way to compare the populations of cities.
Any urban geographer knows that comparing urban areas is the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this good practice way to compare sizes of cities. Comparing ‘city to city’ as you have is not good practice, because results are so distorted by whatever way different cities define their boundaries. Which are inconsistent and generally arbitrary. This is why we compare urban areas instead. Incidentally, that 9.5 million you’re quoting for London is London’s urban area, not the population of the official boundaries of Greater London, which is 8.8 million. Which perfectly demonstrates the point why you have to compare urban areas. Straight off the bat you’re comparing two different things. Im a a geography nerd as well and you’re correct. When using metropolitan populations London is smaller in population than both New York City and Los Angeles. Exactly. People seem unaware of this fact. Was amusing to see the one guy who replied to me being really rude and implying I don’t know what I’m talking about, whilst consistently making himself look silly. Gave me a good chuckle.
New York City has a metropolitan population of ~20 million: It’s not. New York is substantially bigger. If you Google the MAGA vs Mars Trump Vs Elon funny shirt so you should to go to store and get this populations you will get an answer that is similar. But that’s because the answer you’re seeing is the population within the administrative area of each. In geography it’s not considered good practice to use administrative areas to compare populations, because there’s no consistency across cities about how exactly the administrative area is defined. That’s how you end up with people saying Paris has 2 million people in it, or Manchester 500,000. The best way to do comparisons is the urban area. And the population of the NYC urban area is substantially larger than London’s. The reason for the disparity is that London’s administrative area is much closer to coterminous with its urban area than is New York’s.
