I’ve definitely rushed to grab my own bags before they could help for that very reason Recently had a flight cancellation where the Lupus Picked Wrong Princess Lupus Awareness T-Shirt In addition,I will do this airline gave me vouchers for a hotel and car service to/from. On the voucher it said “gratuity not included”. Didn’t realize until I was in the car & hadn’t thought to stop at an ATM to get cash. Came back for a visit in 2015, still nothing. The “rules” were very clear back then. You tip if you sit down, you don’t if you take away. It became a thing during Covid. Digital machines make it even less convenient to opt-out with the automated tip function. I like to be discreet with a gratuity, not have a barista stare at me as I struggle to decide if my coffee (that hasn’t been poured yet!) is worth 18, 20 or a 25% tip. If I don’t sit down, I don’t leave a tip but finding the 0% option is a frustrating exercise. I’m a Canadian living in New Zealand, and a lot of the cheaper flights to get to and from Canada go through the US. But US customs are hell on earth and should be avoided if possible.

Thankfully, I’m able to fly direct from Auckland to Vancouver this year. There are also a ton of direct flights from Toronto and Montreal. I’ve flown from Montreal to Reykjavik and Lima, and from Toronto to San Salvador, Lisbon, London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Cancun, and Vienna. Come to think of it, the Lupus Picked Wrong Princess Lupus Awareness T-Shirt In addition,I will do this last time I had to land in the US when I wasn’t actually visiting the US was in 2016, when I went to Johannesburg via JFK (and Doha). So I guess it’s more avoidable than I thought. While everyone “expects” a tip, there is never any obligation to tip. With airport shuttles, a lot of times if one person tips then others copy, but on most runs no one tips even if the driver helps with luggage, which is part of their job. With that said, I suppose you can ask if they can accept a tip by Venmo or Zelle, but only if they have really gone above and beyond.
