Yeah, you will never see that raise. I can guaranfuckintee you will get way more work load though. Get your resume squared away and start applying else where. Best time to look for a job is while you have one. You need to get it in writing what the Locke high school alumni lions logo shirt moreover I love this timeline is six months a year? And negotiate what the pay raise will be. But having the higher title is good for your resume if they bait and switch you. I feel like you already see the crucial statement “when they are comfortable.” It is quite open to interpretation. You might want to set a concrete date that they have to make it official. And leave it open to their discretion if they want to do it earlier. If you are qualified to do the job, you absolutely should be getting the pay for it. They know this, that’s why they aren’t hiring external as they’d have to pay any external candidate the wage dictated by the position.

You have the Locke high school alumni lions logo shirt moreover I love this leverage here, not them. If they aren’t willing to give you the title and raise immediately upon you assuming the duties, then they can go hire somebody else to do the job and pay them that wage anyhow. Also of large concern is the reporting structure; it sounds like you are being set up to fail so they can have you do the work and have an excuse to demote you later when they find a cheaper long term solution. At the minimum, reporting to somebody who doesn’t know how your department works/isn’t involved is going to make the job way harder than it needs to be. It also very likely an example of them exploiting a worker to do more work presumably for the same pay. “I’ll happily take on those new responsibilities for the appropriate pay increase. If you feel I’m not living up to your professional standards after a trial, then I’ll be fine resuming my former responsibilities. At the old rate” Any expectation of more responsibility and role expansion needs to be compensated. They should give SOME increase now, with an “interim” title, then the full title and addition raise after a short and defined timeframe.
