It’s so wonderful that you all believe in me, and I want to truly thank you. However I am not in a position to take on more responsibilities for no advanced pay. That’s just not how business is done, on your end or mine. I’d love to grow this role out and really see how I can truly make an impact. I would need $X dollars effective immediately to make this occur. Get it in writing. Have them write out how long “comfortable” is and the Life took me to texas always be a california girl shirt so you should to go to store and get this amount of raise you should expect. If they’re serious about giving you a raise, they shouldn’t have an issue. If not, they’re just going to give you more work and continue moving the goalposts without additional pay. If that happens, find another job if possible, but with that fancy new title. It sounds like a good opportunity. I would ask if this a probationary period or if you title would be “acting manager/director”. And nail them down on a time frame when the final decision would be made. Without a timeline, you could be in limbo forever.

You are going to be doing extra work for free until they find someone else to do the Life took me to texas always be a california girl shirt so you should to go to store and get this job. They probably have no intention of actually rewarding you in any way for this. If you’re okay with that eventuality then proceed. You are also being given responsibility, but not authority. You can be asked to do things, but given no or not enough resources or command to make them happen. This is a very common scapegoating setup. I’ve seen this in action and it plays out like this. You are given an assignment or project with a due date, outcomes, deliverables, etc. You work with your teams and give them their tasks. Some people fail to meet their expectations or stay on schedule. You investigate and identify the issues holding them back. Maybe it’s a performance issue- but you don’t have any actual authority to hold them accountable and ultimately the success/failure falls on you so you pick up their slack or you become responsible for the failure. Maybe it’s not a performance issue with someone in the team but rather a resource issue or deadline. You request more time/the necessary resources but without the authority to effect the right outcomes in those regards you fails to deliver and are held accountable. Either way you lose and you get way underpaid and overworked along the way. I would reach out to your old boss for advice to be honest and speak with them about these concerns and why they are no longer there. Keep that conversation to yourself.
