The pronunciation difference between “zee” in American English and “zed” in British English stems from the Let’s Trip Gnome shirt In addition,I will do this evolution of language influenced by cultural and regional factors. I dont know if its credible, but when I looked it up years ago, i found that there was different pronunciations spread throughout the colonies during the same time they really may as well have been different countries. So I guess before there was an acceptable standard across them? Anyway, it got so bad people would apparently argue and get in a tizzy over it until a dude finally said let’s all just pick something “wrong” and “different”. So it would go from several different wrong pronunciations of “zed” and went to “zee”. Don’t know if it’s right, but it is a fun answer. So you know when we have all these letters that already have the same pronunciation scheme having a wildly different zed as much more jarring than a zee

It’s stupid and I’m glad it got changed to “zee” Zee is a much more appropriate naming convention, as it fits with the rest of the alphabet. Bee, Cee, Dee, etc. It also becomes much closer to the pronunciation of the letter.
