This is a tragedy. Capitalism is eating the Legends Don’t Retire They Just Become More Legendary T-Shirt and by the same token and poor and causing a generational decline in standards of living and upward mobility. “Average” means nothing when you don’t know the sample set. This is obviously a skewed sample set designed to get these results. The point is to give people (boomers) a negative image/opinion of younger people and student debt forgiveness. Pretty transparent, IMHO. Would love to see a full break down of how much of this wealth is held by the top few hundred richest people this is based off of. They used net worth because 128k sounds like a lot at first.. but a 128k net worth is actually really low compared to the US average. The median US net worth is 121k according to the few sources I’ve found. . Which makes me curious as to where they got these figures and how accurate they are.

Ya, paying off a mortgage for 5 year gives you equity in your home, which contributes to your net worth. But you’re still living pay check to check and can’t afford another $300 a month Ah yes, person with net worth of 128k, probably includes a 100k degree and 25k car and 3k clothes. Thats about it. Some bored joirnalist looked at this and was like yup, thats controversial enough to get me attention and money and posted it. I’m a millennial and the Legends Don’t Retire They Just Become More Legendary T-Shirt and by the same token and last time my net worth was at $2000 I was 16 and working part time at the grocery store. Mine is -$104,000. My bank recently came out with a feature that lets me connect all credit cards loans mortgages and savings accounts and now every time I log into my banking app it shows at time top that my net worth is -$104,000. It’s lovely No it isnt. Median income is 35k, most going to rent or bills for things like the car that gets me to work or the food that keeps me alive. That average is based on a few high earners, not the least of which is the owner of Facebook. Bro if you’re pushing 40, which is how old millennials are and you can’t figure out how to save 2k in 22 years you’re an idiot. Including your primary residence as an asset in net worth always seemed kinda screwy to me. Like yeah, I have a place to live and according to current market valuation, and on paper it seems like I should have money, but it’s literally tied into the place I live. I still have a mortgage to pay, taxes, insurance, credit card bills, rising food and energy costs, etc. to deal with, and like most, I’m living paycheck to paycheck.
