This so reminds me of my dad. Safely to say my unimpressed mam gave the roast dinner to the dog and let him spend the night on the sofa We have one locally and they’ll only admit you if you are referred by two other members, I’ve lived here over 15 years and never joined because I have no idea who’s a member and no way of finding out who is, I don’t drink so don’t go the pub so how am I supposed to get to know people without being allowed to join in the first place?

It went brilliantly for a year or two and then the inevitable committee types started joining and in the end the whole thing fell apart with people going on about rules and whether the committee could vote because it wasn’t quorate and all that bollocks. I said I’d never join another committee. Like, I’ve only been asked once since (in 30 years maybe) but I said no quite firmly) My local social club was begging on the local Facebook group for money and advertising it’s events complaining they’ve been unable to sell any tickets.
