Edit: In re-reading the Las Vegas Raiders The Peanuts Sport Fans Christmas shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this OP, this seems more like a “clean your plate” situation. We don’t do that here. I always start with small portions, especially if it is a new food. But we do strongly encourage, and even have consequences, for not trying healthy foods. Consequences = You sure aren’t getting dessert or a snack between now and breakfast, mister (my son is the dietary nightmare). Because they refuse to eat healthy foods and demand sweets instead. If you say “fine, don’t eat it if you’re not hungry” they’re just going to end up hungry or malnourished. It’s the same as saying “fine, stay up late then” and then being exhausted and unable to focus during school. Kids don’t work off logic, there’s some things you just can’t explain to them until they’re older.

The way OP put it, kids eat into they are full and then parents forced them to eat everything even though they are already full. This is with adult sized meal not kids size I was forced to eat food I physically could not eat my entire childhood and was also forced to eat my own vomit off the Las Vegas Raiders The Peanuts Sport Fans Christmas shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this table when I threw up from having severe food sensitivities. I promise it’s not just because they want sweets. This, the vomit thing and then being forced to eat it, is a common experience with ARFID folks unfortunately D: OP also specified they weren’t talking about kids who were skipping meals to get sweets but comments OP brought them up Generally, it’s about finishing the food that’s less nice, but healthier. If a kid is served a steak with some veggies, and they eat the steak but ignore the veggies, their parents may force them to eat the veggies, because it’s healthy and because they shouldn’t be ignoring it. I’m not saying anything about if it’s right or wrong. If you ask me, it is important to get your kids to eat their veggies, but thinking back to my own childhood, I remember my parents being a bit hard on it sometimes, and I wouldn’t encourage that. Much of the aversion to veggies is that they’re often badly prepared or seasoned. My son loves veggies because they’re flavorful. It is a battle of wills between an over controlling woman who must have everything her way and her downtrodden child.
