Wow, it’s almost as if the Las-Vegas-Raiders-Davante-Adams-card-shirt1 in contrast I will get this hospital staff have insanely important jobs and should be properly compensated for their labor. That’s literally the point though? It’s not the staff that takes the hit for that, it’s the fucking hospital. The hospital can say “Our patients are suffering because these selfish, entitled nurses don’t want to work!” But in reality it’s the 1) Shit Pay, 2) Shit hours, 3) Shit Nurse-Patient ratio (I.e HIRE MORE PEOPLE), 4) Shit working conditions, like I could go on forever. Either the hospital can pay its employees the wage they deserve or they can seize to operate it’s truly that simple. The latter decision is ENTIRELY up to them. People will literally die if the hospital shuts down. The hospital takes a hit but the patients do too. Have some empathy lmao, the hospital will suffer from paying travel nurses, they don’t need to shut down.

Bypassing a closer hospital (that can meet the Las-Vegas-Raiders-Davante-Adams-card-shirt1 in contrast I will get this care need) means (already failing) EMS systems are even more stretched. And although few medical emergencies are truly time sensitive (response time metrics are perhaps the least valuable way to judge an EMS system), some are. EMS units from outside the area to cover a call. Then another, then their area isn’t covered, and someone else has to come in. Eventually there are no units to respond to the call. And this happens every day. Which leads to deaths when you’re already at a hospital but need to undergo extra transportation and delays to treatments. What about the critical patients who are put at risk when relocated? There are many times when patients would become sicker or die if transported before they are stabilized. Over time, though, more people will want to be traveling nurses, for both scab or non-scab situations, and that will drive down employee compensation because almost always in less than million per year jobs when there’s not a union and increased workers in the field, average yearly compensation starts to decline. It’s already starting to happen with traveling nurses. It might always be that traveling nurses make more, but that cost will eventually not be enough for the hospital to be forced to take the strikers’ deals. Similar things have happened for basically every industry, from construction to agriculture to factory workers.
