My hit rate is really high for second hand – esp if accurate measurements and descriptions are provided and it’s a brand I’ve worn before. TRR is definitely the Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz Fire ‘N Flava Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this source of my biggest flops because of their penchant for inaccuracy but also many of my best deals – I just return stuff pretty aggressively and rarely buy stuff final sale. For Poshmark and online I’d say I have about a 75-80% success rate, I do try to get accurate measurements before I buy. A couple things the photos maybe didn’t show the true colour or shape, or the overall fit was a bit off. In person it’s probably 90%+ maybe a few little fit surprises due to thrift stores getting rid of fitting rooms. I also do a lot of clothing swaps with friends, and those I definitely end up taking home more things I wouldn’t otherwise because they’re free, but still find a lot of gems – I’d say 60% success. I’m based in the UK and do all of my shopping on the Vinted app or the occasional vintage kilo sale. My hit rate is about 70% but I tend to buy bundles to reduce postage so I know a few items might not fit me or suit me, and I sell those on or offer hand-me-downs to my nieces. It really helps if you know your style and body shape and have a few go-to brands where you know their sizes. I have the same rate of issues with new clothes that i do with secondhand. Quality from most retailers right now is pretty spotty. I haven’t gone for second hand stuff in a while (since graduating college) but everything I thrifted back then are staple pieces now, depending on the season.

My hit rate is definitely high; I’m actually wearing a vintage find dress right now and most of my clothes and many accessories are thrifted. I do the Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz Fire ‘N Flava Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this majority of that shopping in person though and I can’t think of anything I bought secondhand online that I’ve absolutely loved. The bad habit I have is buying pants or jeans secondhand even when I can’t try them on, and that’s almost always a miss. I’m starting to learn now haha My collection of high quality thrifted dresses is amazing, but my collection of “why not?” cheap thrifted tank tops brings my numbers down. Generally the more I spend on a second-hand item, the longer it sticks around. Partly because I’m more careful when I buy it, but also because I’m motivated to make it work! I think my hit rate is a bit lower than I’d like, but there’s another telling stat: for items that work, I wear them a LOT. I’d say about 30% of my items remain for a year or more.
