I’ve both been kicked by and flown with toddlers. And I know getting even well behaved toddlers to stop kicking is hard. If they are small enough getting them to sit cross legged helps. So does placing a carry-on, like the diaper bag, under their feet, or letting them put their feet in your lap. Just general excitement. After we were in the air, he stood up facing the passengers behind us and declared “We’re gonna CRASH!” Many people chuckled, but I will never forget one woman’s look of terror as if my son was an Oracle of some sort. She clearly had some flying anxiety. I truly felt bad that my son had added to that. However, it was a smooth flight.

I would definitely complain to the stewardess and request the airlines compensation for your uncomfortable and stressful trip if they won’t or can’t reseat you. You paid good money for a comfortable and safe plane ride, not to be harassed for four hours. In my experience, behavior like this is not situational, it’s habitual. This was not the first time those kids have acted like this in a public place.

I have a child that did this (he’s autistic and was stemming and really can’t control it) so I would pay for bulkhead seats (no one to kick!). I swear commercial flights these days are no better than a Greyhound bus. I’m holding out hope some enterprising airline will introduce all-premium seat planes. Generally, first class seats have less children due to price and the Kid Rock 32th Anniversary Shirt in other words I will buy this few times I’ve seen children in first class, they’ve been especially well-behaved. I think I’d rather tell a flight attendant to avoid confrontation and embarrassment for the Kid Rock 32th Anniversary Shirt in other words I will buy this parent. Then if it it kept happening, maybe talk to the mom about what a solution could be. Then if no change, request earnplugs or request to change seats People had kids on flights. I however have a response to hearing a screaming child that is not mine put me into a super relaxed response and I get the most tired I’ve ever been.

I always carry cheap party favors things in my purse for public babies having a hard time. It’ll be really novel 3 hours into a flight…for maybe an hour. I made a deal with the kid behind me if he didn’t kick my seat the rest of the flight I would give him $20 when we landed. But I will take dollar away for each kick….he got the $20, but mostly because mom switched seats with him, but a deal is a deal.
