A family member and I got a series of blood tests at our usual doctor’s office. Some mix-up occurred, and they apparently misread our insurance and sent the Just a woman who loves Phil Collins flower shirt besides I will buy this lab tests to the wrong out-of-network lab instead of our usual in-network lab. Now, we owe almost $2k for some blood tests. We have appealed to the insurance company, and they told us they cannot cover this since it is out-of-network. We contacted the lab and they told us the only option they have is financial aid (which we do not qualify for). The doctor’s office said that they are “very sorry” and there is nothing they can do at this point. What do we do here? This is not our mistake, nor the lab’s, nor the insurance company’s, but the doctor’s office says that there is nothing they can do. I would think that they should cover the bill but they do not want to. This is already an unpleasant sum of money, but it also makes me wonder what would happen if this was a $50k bill or more. Is the doctor’s office really not liable? Is there any legal action that can be taken? This is in Illinois and the lab was in-state. Our insurance has several plans. Apparently, we have a less common plan which includes a specific local lab in network. When looking at our insurance, the doctor’s office claims that they assumed we had the other plan under this insurance company that covers the lab that the samples ended up being sent to, even though our specific one does not.

I contacted insurance for like the Just a woman who loves Phil Collins flower shirt besides I will buy this 6th time, asking about submitting a second appeal (the first one was denied because lab was OON). They decided to check and realized this lab IS in network (SMH). So not only did the doctor tell us that they messed up and sent it out of network, but the actual insurance company has told us TWICE (initially and after the appeal) that this lab is out of network. Now, they decided that after all it is in network and we owe about $70. Thank you American healthcare system. As for us, we will be extra careful from now on, asking the doctor’s office every time where they are sending the labs. I did not expect this thread to go to viral, but please please please always double check everything and annoy the hell out of insurance company, lab company, etc because they may realize they made a mistake on like the 4th attempt.
