And yet in so many countries a person making that country’s minimum wage CAN buy a house. Me and my boyfriend had to budget but we were ok, I worked 2 jobs, he worked part time and went to school. My sister lives in the same building now and her rent for the exact same apartment is $1800. For fucks sake, how are her and her husband supposed to support their family when their combined income is $45000 and almost half of that is going just to rent? They have to clothe themselves and two rapidly growing boys, feed themselves and two rapidly growing boys, car payments because cars are obnoxiously expensive anymore, insurance, etc. They’re pretty much underwater and they already have word that the rent is going up again at the end of their lease.

Used to be, a house cost somewhere between 10-50,000 and minimum wage could maybe reach that high. So yeah, minimum wage WAS meant for that Is it not?
