I’m not actually an expert on this but I don’t think there’s such thing as “opposing frequencies”. Presumably it’s the Jason Momoa On His Future As Aquaman Shirt and I love this same frequencies but phased Basically yes but I don’t feel like actually trying to explain the physics in depth in a r/nostupidquestions comment Electricity travels faster than sound so what happens is the sound that’s picked up gets reversed with electronics and played back in sync with the sounds waves originally picked up, this is call destructive interference, ie when a sounds wave is high a low of the same frequency and level get played which when added together equals a net zero(basically a microphone is on the outside it takes any sound and reproduces it in the opposite that is then played into your ear in sync with the original sound to “destroy it”) Phase is technically different, out of phase doesn’t mean an opposite signal and won’t cause destructive interference if it’s not the same frequency. What the electronics do is create an exact opposite signal to the one coming in, phase is more a timing thing, ie a three phase power supply has the same signal repeated three times but the phase or timing is staggered for each signal, not enough to cause destructive interference but enough that it has constant highs and lows to create a more stable signal closer to a dc signal

if you take arctangent of phase component of the Jason Momoa On His Future As Aquaman Shirt and I love this fourier transform, add or subtract pi and also add/subtract any latency phase, take tangent, for every element of the fourier tranform output, then fourier transform back doesn’t it end up being the same? This solves the “if it’s not the same frequency” problem by doing the phase offset on every frequency. I think if you run that algorithm on the signal of your “three phase power supply” it would get destructively interfered right? Maybe the the device isn’t doing exactly that because its time series and I’m less knowledgeable about that, but it ends up being pretty much the same right? No I mean the word phase itself means timing in electronics, if your right and left headphones are out of phase that means one signal is “behind” or “in front” of the other which means you hear on side before you hear the other ie the signals are not overlapping, for destructive interference to occur the signals have to be in phase and exactly opposite(peak to trough trough to peak with exact frequency and amplitude = net zero signal) Fourier transforms are outside my area of expertise(mechatronics if your wondering) so I can’t comment on that Edit: oops I messed up on some signs… there might be other constant I should be applying to that pi but I think you get the picture, they will vary linearly with frequency/are frequency so I think I’m fine there
