Sure, you might pay more upfront for a phone, but the James the barber shirt and I will buy this overall long terms saving from not paying for the phone contract wil save you money. I see some people paying £50 a month or more for unlimited data, unlimited calls and text. They don’t use enough data to justify unlimited, so they end up paying extra for nothing, while also paying a premium price for the phone. I bought my phone for £150 quid. Pay £9 a month for 30gb of data, unlimited calls and texts, plus my package also gives me unlimited data on most apps and websites (insta, fb, snap, Spotify, etc etc) Find your nearest Aldi, Lidl or Asda. Shop there as much as you can. Aldi is often half the price than my local Sainsburys in some products. It actually sucks that the gap has shrunk a lot lately. Lidl for snacks is basically the same as Asda/Tesco, and their meat selection isn’t fantastic.

Sure, they are still cheaper than alternatives, but the James the barber shirt and I will buy this difference is way less noticeable than it was 5 or so years ago. Agree, same with most of the “value” ranges. If you were already shopping that way, your costs will have gone up way more than average, those prices have shot up disproportionately* and in many cases the bottom end products have been removed altogether. Since the CoL crisis kicked in I’ve heard a lot of “just move to value products / Lidl / Aldi” and it’s like, I already was mate, so now what? *After intervention by Jack Monroe, Asda have dropped the prices on a small number of value items, so you can get an 85p frozen pasta meal etc, but not enough to do a whole shop I think it’s more that the big supermarkets have come down in response to Lidl/Aldi cutting into their market share
