My grandparents are approaching 80 and also lived on a lake in MN just before moving back into town 2 years ago. Grandpa was a maintenance man for 3M and Grandma was a part time florist. Grandma has just never really understood why my family of 5 (I weld and my wife works retail) couldn’t vacation every year with them to Florida or Mexico or Arizona. After all, my aunt, who married into a funeral home family, they can afford multiple vacations a year. When they were selling that house on the It’s Not Hoarding, RC Car Racer Shirt in contrast I will get this lake, she couldn’t quite understand that we could never imagine affording their home. After all, the family that did buy it was about our age, so, what was our problem? In 2010 I worked at Wells Fargo’s call center, I made $14.23 an hour with my shift differential, and my 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment was $768 a month. I was able to afford it by myself, and still have a few hundred bucks left over for everything else.

Last year (2022) I worked for Bank of America doing the It’s Not Hoarding, RC Car Racer Shirt in contrast I will get this same exact job I did for Wells Fargo, and I got paid… $14 an hour. The same exact apartment that I rented out cost $1300 a month now, which is $180 more than my gross earnings in a paycheck. Edit: to the people wondering why I’m still in the same job, you clearly don’t understand what subreddit you’re on. The job market is pretty fucking awful, when you factor in that call centers have almost zero growth, it’s easy to see why that happens. As for trying to get out of that field, I regularly get denied jobs because “you wont be taking calls and we aren’t sure if you’d enjoy that environment”. Your average call center has approximately 300 agents at any given time. Each supervisor handles approximately 30 agents. Each manager handles approximately 5 supervisors, and then you have a call center director.
