It’s free lunch and if the people who don’t like you don’t show then even better. Take the free food, and fuck the rest of em. Take ur friends from the workplace out for some drinks, in private. No need to invite everyone, for some wouldnt come and it ll just make u feel bad. Also, i dont see why u ll wanna spend ur money to say goodbye to some people u dont really care about. So yeah, private party or better yet, tell people about it, but give out invitations or sum, mentioning “yeah, i want only people who are profesionals/social/whatever to come, bc some people around here are lame etc etc”. Might not be as good as being loved by everyone, but u ll at least have some dignity. Have fun at ur party Oh I would go and live it up on the free food and hopefully booze. You may be putting a lot of people in a bind if you agree to the In November We Wear Blue Diabetes Awareness Month Rainbow T-Shirt but in fact I love this party. Some will feel obligated and go and hate it, others will NOT feel obligated and will not show up (making your enemy happy) and the ones who really want to show up will then be fearful if the bully will target them for showing. I disagree with the many comments saying declining will burn bridges, as that’s not necessarily the case, depending on the reason you give for declining. You could thank them very much for the generous offer and say you are keen to stay in touch but that you’re not comfortable being the centre of attention in a situation like that, etc. If you don’t show up, there will be rumors. Kidding aside, I take it your boss is not toxic and wants to honor you as a kind gesture. Lean into the kindness. Accept the kindness. Realize that those toxic ppl will be seen for who they are. Keep your head high. There is honor in not lowering yourself to their level and leaving rather than playing their games. But if there are kind people that will attend, give them a chance to wish you well. If the mean people don’t show up, everyone will feel the positive vibes and be able to clearly see the difference in vibes when the others are present. You can make up excuses like you’re really busy after work and need to work through lunch or some BS like that.
