Speaking heteronormatively: Body image is a different thing for guys vs women. Women get an assload of negative feedback and controlling input on their physical attributes from a young age; men might get a bit, but not even close to the I’m retired don’t have to don’t want to you can’t make me cat sewing shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this same extent. I’m a woman, and I know that some clothes make me look frumpy. My own husband is very hesitant to tell me which clothes look good on me because of all this ridiculous nonsense. We shouldn’t ask the question if we don’t want the real answer.

Women do this and it comes from a place of immature insecurity. As a female I would have replied like you did. If it doesn’t look good it doesn’t look good I’m not going to sit here and bull shit with you if you ask my opinion .
