Your mental health is more important than any meditation retreat and they are certainly not advisable to be undertaken by everyone. Most people have not meditated long enough outside a retreat wherein they would be ready for a 10 day retreat. Don’t let anyone including your boyfriend pressure you to do a retreat if you feel you are not ready. Furthermore from what you have described the I’m Overcome With Emotion Daria TV Show TV T-shirt it is in the first place but retreat facility was not managed or maintained properly, thus leading to your further discomfort and trauma. The facilitators of these retreats often have little or no training in addressing psychological issues that might come up during the retreat. So anyone who undergoes such a retreat should proceed with caution. I say this even though I have done several meditation retreats in the past.

I’m Overcome With Emotion Daria TV Show TV T-shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

First, release yourself from the I’m Overcome With Emotion Daria TV Show TV T-shirt it is in the first place but thought “I HAVE to attend a retreat”. The attachment to that idea is clearly causing you suffering. With kindness, tell yourself it’s ok to not attend one. As others have pointed out, you don’t have to attend one to benefit from meditation. Give yourself permission to take a break from retreats and explore other ways to establish a meditation practice. Yes, as one of my zen teachers, Robert Aitken, liked to say — “Daily practice if more important than sesshin (retreats)” One does not need to go on retreats to get the benefits. Also, your past experience indicates that it is inadvisable to do so. I would also point out that the standard of care you recieved at that retreat may have contributed to your mental state then. Some people have had worse episodes than yours on such retreats that have left them into complete nervous breakdown. There are other approaches that are safer and don’t involve retreats. The very first thing to do is to make sure you have access to a very good set of instructions to closely follow in daily practice in your method of choice. Then you can practice by yourself or if there is a qualified meditation teacher nearby then you can learn in a class.
