While my phone has lasted a long time, with very excessive use, planned obsolescence of phones ain’t a crazy revelation at this point. I buy phones with good batteries, then charge them only as necessary. Still, wear and tear forces me to buy a new one. I had a iPhone SE (2016) and replaced it a couple of months ago with the I’m a Grumpy Old Man I Was Born In December Skull Shirt Furthermore, I will do this new 2022 SE mainly because of battery failure (it would not hold a charge and needed an external battery pack to work), but also because I heard they were going to discontinue the support for the 2016 SE in autumn this year, so it made more sense to upgrade, I will probably replace the battery anyways at some point and keep the old phone as a spare handset just in case… Both the pixel 6a and pixel 7 were announced to receive updates for 5 years, and the iphones are already supported for five years

The problem is manufacturers like Samsung not supporting the I’m a Grumpy Old Man I Was Born In December Skull Shirt Furthermore, I will do this phones for that long. My wife and I had s8’s which we loved and still worked perfectly in every way but they weren’t supported anymore and we not getting security updates. Now they only support phones for 3 years. It’s a scam. Especially when they could have easily been used another few years. Honestly fuck these top comments saying they work fine, every phone ive ever had for the past 8 years has been faulty or has become faulty within 3 years at most, i even replaced the battery on one and within a year the battery was dying again. Apple and android get away with making products built to break and it’s bullshit. It’s shit for the evnironment with the amount of electronic waste that gets pumped into the landfill. It’s shit for the consumer, just having another thing that they need to think about maintaining and buying, and it’s bullshit because the companies that make these phones would still make ludicrous amounts of money even if they built these phones to last for 10 years. They still release phones every year and people will keep buying them every year. Apple slowing down their older models with every update and/or not allowing you to update your phone is a real problem too (dunno if this is an android issue too)
