I read this post and decided to watch the I’m a grandma and a Red Wings fan which means I’m pretty much perfect shirt in contrast I will get this movie. I couldn’t get past Robert Pattinson completely obliterating a seagull on a rock? I’m too soft. Honestly, I’d rather have a bowling ball covered in shards of glass shoved up my ass than have to watch this movie again! The worst movie of all time- by a landslide! I’m a dirty casual, so the black and white plus the very slow plot left me nodding off imo. I really wanted to like this movie but I just couldn’t get into it. I honestly think his life purpose was to play this role. It’s gotta be one of my favorite acting performances ever I don’t know how people watch these artsy movies, my brother raves about this one. I tried to watch it and no doubt both Dafoe and Pattison did a great job acting. But all I saw was a slow black and white movie with a weird plot that required me to go on to the internet to find out what the hell was going on. We were the only people laughing, but we LOVED IT. I think it’s one of those movies that people think is deeper than it really is, so maybe that’s why it was disappointing. I personally hated that movie. I thought the idea is amazing and super-interesting, but the execution wasn’t for me. That’s exactly how I felt about The Lobster (no relation.) I was so intrigued with the concept and wanted to love it, but that movie ended up just being so goddamn silly and convoluted. That ending was infuriating!

So yeah, I feel you. It sucks when something seems like it’s going to be right up your alley but ends up being so disappointing. I didn’t have that problem with The Lighthouse, though. I really loved that movie, but I can definitely see why some wouldn’t. I didn’t love the I’m a grandma and a Red Wings fan which means I’m pretty much perfect shirt in contrast I will get this movie as it’s not quite my style, but I really believed that Dafoe was an old timey sea captain. I agree that the performances were good, but the movie was massively disappointing for me. I was a huge fan of The Witch, but the Lighthouse just bored me. Clearly, I’m a minority in this sub, but I hated it. It was so boring and felt utterly pointless. I honestly thought it seemed like some art student’s project that was done in black and white to make it more “authentic” and served no purpose other than to provide something for film snobs to scoff at others for not understanding.
