And I thought I’d never be the If you haven’t risked coming home under a flag don’t you dare disrespect it american flag T-Shirt in other words I will buy this parent who force fed my kid (never to the extent you describe) but my one year old will eat two bites and say he’s done and then 10 minutes later he’s crying asking for more food. If I let him choose how he wanted to eat, he would graze all day long while playing with his toys. Now, you may be thinking “what’s wrong with that? Let the kid graze!” But the problems with that are threefold: The food he’s grazing on us usually premade/grab and go snacks and therefore not very healthy. I realize I’m the one choosing what to give him, but it’s a lot of work and bizarre to reheat my healthy, home cooked dinner of say, pasta, for him to graze on while playing. So he usually ends up getting a cracker or some bullshit instead that’s virtually empty calories. And 2. Kids are messy eaters. If I let him graze, I would just constantly be cleaning up crumbs and smears all day. If I can get him to eat 3 or even 4 meals a day, that’s only 3-4 times I have to clean him and the high chair and floor and dishes, etc.

3. Grazing all day long is not conducive to doing anything productive with our day. I don’t want to be a slave to constantly having to carry snacks around and feed my baby all day while getting groceries, or doing literally anything else that day. So, I’ve arrived at being that parent that may seem like I’m force feeding my kid at meal times, but that’s because this food is healthy, and I don’t want him to say he’s hungry again until at least a good 2 hrs have passed. Basically I’m trying to train him to eat on a typical adult schedule. It’s simple. They won’t die if they miss a meal every now and then. I don’t force my kids to eat more than they wish but I do make them do their eating at meal times. It’s chaos if we don’t have that rule, they get distracted at dinner time and don’t eat anything and then beg for food at different random times later in the evening. In our house you eat at dinner time and then maybe get a small snack before lights out. If you don’t eat at dinner time you’re waiting until breakfast.
