My grandpa, before he died, had a PHd in physics and chemistry. He taught at universities in France, the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this US, and Taiwan. He produced gadgets for the US government that completely boggle my mind. He also had zero idea how to manage his finances, like at all. Completely unable to manage his budget and spending. And he did not have a complicated budget. He died destitute, even though he made great money from his company. Just as an example, he once bought a device for his company that cost 200K, used it twice, and sold it for 100K loss. I am very smart, my executive function is garbage though and results in my husband doing a lot of the housework because gets it done much faster than me. Another victim of the Gifted Student to Adult Who Didnt Work On Themselves Because They Thought Intelligence Was Inherent And Now They’ve Fallen Behind pipeline
I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt, hoodie, tank top, long sleeve tee
My wife is an amazing ER doctor, and cannot add two-digit numbers in her head. I skipped multiple grades and failed one of my medical boards (not uncommon). When I was forced to go to a “boards boot camp” to make sure it didn’t happen again, I was joined by a bunch of my classmates …who’d gone to Harvard, Princeton, Johns Hopkins and one who’d designed missile radar systems for the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this Air Force. It’s not about horsepower as much as how well your brain is suited for a particular task. Is she slow but thorough? Fast doesn’t mean correct. My husband often makes comments about how long it takes me to prep a sink full dishes for the dishwasher. But when it’s time to unload the dishwasher my results are better every time. The amount of re-washing I have to do when he loads the dish washer is wild to me. He also “cleans” the house faster than I do. But he’s not cleaning the baseboards, vacuuming the return air vents, dusting, cleaning mirrors or windows. I change bedding and vacuum under the beds, I wipe sinks and counters before doing floors, he vacuums around anything big on the floor like laundry baskets or kids toys. So basically, yeah if you half ass something it’s going to be faster.
I have a college degree and a job that requires an extreme amount of detailed critical thinking, but I could get lost driving down a one way road with no turn offs. I also, according to my husband, have zero observational skills. We all have different skills and types of intelligence I find it odd you’re so focussed on comparing your achievements and thinking it should mean she’s better or faster at anything. You’re in a speed race against your wife in everything that she isn’t aware of. Maybe just let go of it and stop comparing yourself to her to find a way to feel above her. Does quickly actually have any relevance in what she does, or just to you? Same! My step dad was extremely smart. Had awards from college and helped design satellites, etc. But he had no understanding of how to interact with people or how to do simple things to keep the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this household together(my mom did all of that) It’s as if their brains can’t dummy down enough to use common sense or something? Or they probably just don’t want to deal with it if they consider it beneath them. I have a PhD and do cutting edge science. I am also fluent in three languages. Yet I can’t find my way in a grocery store. No one is good at everything. And I suck at a lot of things, particularly daily tasks.

One of my friends in high school was routinely the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this smartest person in the room, including teachers. He was valedictorian and at math/science competitions across the whole state everyone else was competing for 2nd. He’s now an orthopedic surgeon after finishing top of his class in med school and being selected to one of the most competitive residencies for orthopedics. Taking 15 minutes trying to figure out how to lengthen the middle seatbelt before giving up and having someone help him. Hopping out of the driver’s seat of a friends truck without putting it in park which required our buddy in the passenger seat to have sprawl all the way over to push the brake with his hand. Im an electrical engineer and the engineers I work with are excellent at what they do, but like my grandad would say “they couldn’t find their own asshole with a funnel”
Being “book smart” is a different skillset than being able to keep a home, hold an an engaging conversation, speak in public, etc. The skills it takes to write an essay are different than packing what you need for trip. Additionally, people who “intellectualize” things may take more time to plan – as an example, they may write out a whole list and make a careful budget prior to a trip and spend a whole day doing that before they even get to packing, while you might have already tossed everything you need into your bag and you’re getting nervous that they haven’t done anything that visibly looks like they’ve started packing. The best student i ever taught had several learning disabilities, including dyslexia. She was not “sharp” or “naturally gifted” by anyone’s standards. But she had put the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this time and effort into learning HOW to study, and more specifically, what studying methods worked for her. She was an absolute delight to tutor because she listened, took notes, asked questions, told me when she still didn’t understand something. Then she’d actually review her notes, and continue doing additional practice all week long, so that she’d have any given skill completely mastered by our next session. Despite always being in remedial courses through elementary and high school, she has been incredibly successful as an adult and recently completed her master’s degree.
Many “gifted” students (myself included) hit a wall when their natural talent runs out and they have no actual study habits or skills. I didn’t actually learn how to work hard to learn something until well into college, despite being in advanced programs all throughout high school. All this is to say there are different types of intelligence, and different types of learning. Perhaps your wife was naturally gifted at academics, or perhaps your wife is slow to learn bur incredibly disciplined about studying. Man, this is a pretty weird thing to think about your own wife. Have you ever had a conversation with her? Like, is she just your household chores robot and you have no other way to gauge her intelligence? My husband is well aware that I’m super smart but don’t have the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this executive function god gave a sea cucumber. Being good at tests and reports is a skill, like ice skating. Your wife was good at that skill. She’s not good at other skills. Like you were bad at tests and reports but really good at sounding patronizing as fuck when talking about your wife.
I can’t fix my car that doesn’t make me an idiot. She has different skills/knowledge than you do. I knew plenty of brilliant people who lacked skills I had, they were still smarter than me. You sound bitter. I’ve come to realize his brain is operating at so many different levels I can’t imagine; considering so many things about every scenario. We have all heard we use 10% of our brain. This is simply not true. Look at idiot savants, or even autistic individuals with great gifts in particular fields. Virtually every mental gift, takes something in return from a different part of our intellect/mind. Sometimes the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this cost is fairly small, sometimes far too large. Everyone is unique, love them regardless and be kind. Cheers! My wife has a friend who has her masters in psychology but she’s about stupid as it is possible to be. Which would be fine if she was nice or interesting or funny. Nope. She hates puppies! Like WHO THE HELL hates puppies? I’d even settle for “somewhat normal”. Nope. She has every neuroses known to man. Can’t eat things with faces but fine with meat (?), allergic to wind, asthma but only triggered by noises… crazy stuff like that.
Her husband stuck it out for about 5 years but he couldn’t stand her. She has literally dated everybody in her town and has run out of fish on plenty of fish. She is currently seeing 2 married men. Neither can stand her as a full time side piece. Her summer vacation is spent hopping across the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this country finding former acquaintances who are willing to put her up for a night or two which is about the maximum anybody can stand her. When she lands she pulls out a massive photo album stuffed with cash register receipts. She will spend literally hours going over each receipt and telling stories about each of them – books movies, shows. But each story is more boring than the previous (as this post is getting.Again, sorry for this but I’ve been triggered).
Every conversation or story must be 100% about her or relate directly to her. She is about as un-self aware as is humanly possible to be and literally dumber than a bag of rocks. To top it off she has a cackle that would make a wicked witch jealous. And she cackles a LOT. Like every other sentence. TLDR; Education is not the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this same as intelligence and intelligent people can have different abilities when it comes to the real world. Emotional intelligence, self awareness, kindness and a sense of humor are far more important traits. You are assuming academia translates 1 for 1 into the real world. The reality is that everyone thinks different and acts differently. That plays into how you are and what you do.
I might not know how to fly a jumbo jet but if the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this pilots passed out, you can bet I’m in the seat and figuring it out as I go. Not because I can fly smaller planes but because I am willing to risk it all no matter the odds. My personality says we can. My odds tell me 50/50 even if it’s really more like 90/10. I’ll try and go forward or keep trying till I can’t. Don’t have to know how. Just know doing nothing gets me no where. My boyfriend is the same. EXTREMELY smart almost scarily so, he’s like a human encyclopedia but in every aspect outside of academics he is the stupidest person I’ve ever met. To the point people notice and talk to me about it, it’s like he was locked in a room and forced to watch documentaries and was never taught any life or survival skills whatsoever. He is almost 23 and I just taught him how to use a can opener yesterday. It is horrifically frustrating.
Im a straight A honors student, but I’m absolutely dumb and slow when it comes to common tasks. For me it often comes down to combination of a head-in-the-clouds low attention span and overthinking everything. For an exaggerated example, a person can ask me “1+1?” and instead of just simply answering “2” like a reasonable person, my brain will ponder proofs of 1+1 equals 2 and why it equals 2. My best friend in the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this entire world got straight As at school, college, and graduated with a first from Cambridge university. He speaks multiple languages, climbed the ranks of his competitive consulting job in London faster than anyone else his age, and bought a £700,000 flat in London when he was 25. He also asked if shoelaces come in pairs, if he was allowed to fill his water bottle from a water fountain, and has been in several terrible relationships that even a masochist would have run from. Former gifted kid here. One day at 12 or so I was cataloging my fishing gear and my father yelled “you plan too damn much!” I was trying to get a list together so I could see what I needed to acquire for the perfect all-purpose tackle box.
He was right. I don’t so much procrastinate, but I don’t want to start a job I can’t finish, so I have to tell myself to just start and see what happens. Simple, there’s different versions of smart. Some people are book smart, others have an abundance of common sense. Some pick up new concepts extremely quickly, others need a minute to work things out. I had math with the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this same girl, J, all four years of high school. One day senior year the teacher is going around the room checking everyone’s homework. She gives J full points, looks at my paper, gives me no points and tells me to ask J how to do the problem. So I turn to J and say ‘well, how do you do this?’ She looks at me and says ‘I don’t know’ I say ‘what do you mean, the teacher just looked at your work and gave you full points!’ She then showed me her page which did have writing on it but definitely not any kind of answer and proceeded to explain to me that she got A’s in math all four years of high school by smiling and just generally sucking up to the teachers. She said when people assume that you’re smart they just give you A’s and don’t look at anything.
Being academically successful requires learning the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this skills you need to excel in classes. These skills are not necessarily the same as those needed to succeed in the real world. I am not criticizing academia. Knowledge is necessary. Some people concentrated on learning those skills to the exception of other life skills. They are both important. My wife has an honours degree and masters degree and still counts on he fingers. She’s brilliant in her field of studdy I have a coworker who’s a mechanical engineer. I once asked him to pass me an Allen wrench and he asked me which one that was. He probably couldn’t put together an Ikea chair if he had help. IME, school was nearly 100% memorization. People with great memory excel in school. Us block heads were set up to struggle.
Those who have common sense/street smarts usually aren’t book smart and vice versa. It’s rare to find people who are both. ETA: my husband says I’m one of the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this most intelligent people he knows, but I have the math skills of a kindergartener. I was in special Ed for years because of my inability to do math. People have their talents and intelligence in different areas. Mine is certainly not in mathematics. Speed isn’t necessary mean smarter or better. My husband is senior software engineer. He’s amazing at everything. Knows about plumbing, electrical, cars, etc. Like he just knows shit. Amazes me. But he is better than me at basically everything but reading. I can clean whole house in time takes him to clean room. I can read an entire book bf he be done with a chapter. He’s just real methodical with everything.
I was considered gifted as a child. In an academic environment of rote memorization and regurgitation, I accelerating excelled, but in the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this real world I would always second guess myself and found it easier to just not do things. Once I learned to trust my instincts and intellect instead of relying on just intellect alone, it improved my life considerably. You can learn how to practice and study and pick up information fast when it’s just for yourself, taking a test, or doing homework. But when the pressure of showing your intelligience to other people in the real world comes up, imposter syndrome can kick in so hard, it can actually debilitate you. I logically would guestimate I have an IQ of 110-120 or so (judging by that I was a college grad in a hard major, generally smarter than my peers, so slightly above average the general population. I’m very, very smart and methodical about a few things, but I’m also no genius). So let’s just assume that’s true (I know I also could be wrong! I’ve never taken an IQ test).
Imposter syndrome/lack of confidence/believing your dumb can literally make you dumb. Or at least seem dumb in conversation. My wife is 10x smarter than me, but she’s very slow when it comes to things I’m fast at. But there are things I’m slow at that she’s fast at. Everyone is different Book smart and street smart are two different things. If your wife spent all her time in the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this books, and didn’t get a lot of life exposure, there you go Look up learning styles. You’ll learn that people have different strength / intelligence. eg. One person could be great with words, but not so much with understanding diagrams. The education system isn’t about being smart/skilled/intelligent as much as it is about regurgitating what was told to you. There is very little critical thinking in the education system. The issue with being gifted is that it tends to make people really tunnel visioned and parents tend to forget good grades does not equal a well rounded adult so that doesn’t balance out. Then the person may enter a field where they have to be hyper fixated to excel. Reminds me of my BIL who is insanely smart as a Radiologist, yet can’t cook for the life of him. Or a Neurologist I knew who once got so startled he tried to sign some forms with the back of his pen or routinely wore his coat inside out. The man’s office was a goddamn mess. This is also why some fields side eye new Harvard grads. Based on what my husband said: Good at theory and hypotheticals, no experience in field and real world application so you have to handhold them as they adjust.
I was naturally smart as a kid. I was in gifted and talented, honor roll, and even went to a special magnet High school. But I was LAZY and got bored quickly. So I learned to do things quickly and last minute. My Highschool girlfriend was the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this opposite. She enjoyed doing things methodically and carefully. She was slow at everything but did everything well. Fast forward 25 years she’s a lawyer and I’m a truck driver. My current wife is also slow at things (except writing papers where she’s like a human printer) because she’s careful and methodical. Her dad is a retired engineer who can do anything but he’s also slow and precise. He’d rather be slow than make mistakes. This^ I skim the surface, adapt quickly and can get a lot done (not perfectly). My partner is very methodical, very deep diver. Much slower but it’s done perfectly (or close).
Book smart not street smart. My sister is a genius but dumb when it comes to human emotions. Just my opinion though. It’s amazing that my wife is an incredible project manager, researcher and skilled nurse, super creative in her field. My sister has a couple Masters. I didn’t finish college. She’s considered smart, but has no common sense. I can beat her at Jeopardy, as can most of my family. We all agree, better to be as we are, no Masters needed! I have a very good friend who did horribly in school, dropped out and every teacher implied that he was just slow. Can barely read. He can figure things out amazingly. One day he was reading his text messages out loud because that’s the I work out to eat everything Kirby weightlifting meme shirt besides I will buy this only way it clicks for him and I’m like dude, you’re dyslexic af. Since I’m adhd and dyslexic and most of my very very smart kids are one or the other i spent some time teaching him how to learn when it’s hard to read. He picks things up much better now and did very well with his last class. It was hard, he learns audibly not through reading, but he did it. He’s now re- thinking his whole ‘I’m dumb’ mentality. He’s from a rural low income poorly thought of area and the teachers just wrote him off as another ghetto boy. Pisses me off. He’s pretty bright and very quick, just has difficulty reading.
