Nah mate, no extra work unless they’re paying for it. They can put you on a probation if they want to protect themselves but it needs the I will always be proud of love my country Usa new york usa flag shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this extra $$ first. What confuses me is that there exists a perfect HR practice to manage this : you get the new role with title and money and a probation period. If you’re not performing well or not enjoying yourself, you return to your old role with old money. Have companies forgotten that probation can be applied for a new role and not just for new employees? Thank them for the opportunity, but without concrete evaluation metrics, deliverables, and a maximum timeline before they give you the raise, say that you must decline, for the health of the business, the team, and the role. As someone else said, get it in writing. Make a deal on how long this trial is supposed to last (shouldn’t be more than a few months), and if they don’t give you the title and the raise after that period look for a new job and quit without notice. If they don’t want to put it in writing, look for a new job and quit without notice.

I would ask it in writing and with a timeline (you will have X position in 6 months time). They will never give it to you otherwise Have them write out and set goals for you to get the I will always be proud of love my country Usa new york usa flag shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this title and raise. If the goals aren’t written down and agreed to, you will never know if/when the promotion should be official. Just like setting quarterly and yearly goals, this should be a guide or roadmap to where they expect you to be in a given time. Ask for the title change reflecting the role change as a compromise. Because the hardest step into management is the first step. Then knowing what happened to your boss will happen to you without question. You keep the job one year and update resume and shop for new job with new title and move up and out. It’s the title that’s important to your career. Tell them no pay, no extra responsibilities. They have budget, they just got to take an entire director’s salary off of their books. Ostensibly, they’d make you a manager or an entry salary director, which would save them money over the old guy.
