My daughter struggles with restrictive food preferences too. One thing she will do is try one bite of something when we urge her to, agree that it’s good and she likes it, but still refuse to eat any more of it. Any insight into this pattern? Thankfully there are a few healthy things that she will eat, so we can afford to be patient and try to have her expand her palate one bite at a time. No idea what it tastes like, but from recipes I’ve seen with it I think it probably is something I’d like if my body didn’t forcibly reject it. It also may just be that in her mind it’s Not Good and she’s having trouble working past that. I can eat tomatoes as an adult, I don’t mind the taste of them, but the whole time I’m doing it I’m just a little bit stressed about it and I’m not enjoying it.

The best way I can describe it is think about it someone served you dog meat. It probably tastes fine, may even be delicious (I wouldn’t know) but the I Voted Red You Voted Blue Don’t Blame Me This Shit’s On You Usa FLag T-Shirt in contrast I will get this whole time you’re eating it you’re so aware of the taboo that you shouldn’t be eating this it’s wrong and gross and bad. If they asked if you enjoyed it, you may truthfully be able to say yes, but I doubt you’d ever eat it again willingly. ETA: for me…I mean enough for like six hours. It’s all about kicking hunger down the line and dealing with it later. Even if it tastes good, there’s just no head space for all that food (again…my personal experience with even tasty foods). We only require her to try one bite of a new thing, but it is just frustrating when she says she likes it but it still doesn’t become a thing she will eat any more of. Did you ask her why she was satisfied after one bite? My answer would be..because even if I like it one more bite will make me throw up (swallowing a lot is ick for me). Hers might be something else but, for her, probably rooted in personal experience.
