Because that’s discrimination. Here’s a better question: Why isn’t everyone reassessed on their ability to drive? Say Every time your license expired. The answer is simple, in Florida, anyways.. Because it doesn’t matter. The whole “getting a license” system is a joke. People don’t know how right turn on red works, they don’t know what does a blinking red mean, what does blinking amber mean, they don’t know when to give the I stand for our flag kneel for the cross proud to be american christian eagle american flag shirt But I will love this right of way.. FFS at least twice a week I run into some experts that can’t figure out a 4 way stop intersection in front of a Target. And only a fraction of these drivers are elderly (by looks anyways). Why isn’t there a swarm of cops in front of every bar picking up drivers? I feel like coming out of a bar and getting behind a wheel is probable cause enough to warrant a traffic stop. When I was a teenager, my two friends were walking down a street, way on the shoulder and an old man in a van, hit my friend on the outside. She was drug under the van 100 yards or so. Thank god she lived, but her injuries were serious. He did not lose his license and it was known he could not see and was in his 80’s.( Small town)

It’s expensive and annoying! Imagine you were a 70 year old + politician, why would you ever subject yourself to such torment In the I stand for our flag kneel for the cross proud to be american christian eagle american flag shirt But I will love this UK, elderly people are regularly reassessed, opticians are required to report people who do not have road-legal sight and doctors must report anyone who is not fit to drive. also, its sure way to get a huge heap of people to vote against you, so no politicains wants to take that stance Old people simply don’t cause enough accidents that there is any great constituency who wants to vote for this or pay for their retesting. I always wonder this when I see elderly customers struggle to take their meal to their car and then they drive off. Seems dangerous af Because it would be an insanely huge undertaking. Here in the UK there is already several months wait time for a driving test, now imagine how bad it would be if everyone over 65 had to take one every 5 years. As long as the elderly are willing to pay increased insurance premiums on account of their age & reduced faculties, they won’t be tested again unless absolutely required. They bring in too much bank & being retested might put them off. American infrastructure is heavily road based. Lots of families move away from their elderly and don’t provide them assistance on a regular basis. Unless someone is willing to shell out large sums of money to get someone to do all the driving that needs to be done (which can be necessary to go somewhere 2 miles away), then it’s hard to take away elderly driving privileges without causing massive problems.
